What do you think about my sophomore (high school) schedule?

Actually Scrap that post^ let’s get back to the topic, What do you think about my sophomore schedule and what should I take for Jr. Year?

It’s a good schedule, but in my opinion you should be taking Precalc along with or instead of Algebra II. That’s what I did and now I can take AP Calc a year earlier.

I guess they aren’t very smart/don’t work hard…

You seem like a pretty smart guy, I recommend skipping Algebra 2 and going into Precalc, because you’re a bit behind in math for top schools, and regular chemistry shouldn’t be harder than AP chemistry…

Puggly, at my high school Completion of Alg 2 is a prerequisite to precalc.
@bobtheboy Skipping Alg 2 isn’t an option, Alg 2 is a Texas high school graduation requirement. Any other ideas? And elaborate on how I’m behind in math

By the way my destination is JHU, don’t know whether you guys consider it a top school?

John Hopkins is definitely a top school.
Yes, take Alg 2 and go into precalc. AP Chem is math-based and lab-based. Chemistry is one of things where if you start off well you’ll do great.

Self study Algebra 2? and take a placement test? It’s a graduation requirement everywhere but many schools allow you to get credit for it over the summer.

At my middle school everyone took Algebra 1 and Geometry. I realize that this might be a bit above average but I was under the impression that most people going to good schools - especially one like JHU - are advanced in math (e.g. Algebra 2+ freshman year).

^ Just want to say, some people may take Alg II freshmen year, but still only be in honors classes - not extremely advanced :stuck_out_tongue: Here we take Alg I, II, then Geometry in the Honors track.

It’s fine.

Good idea Bobtheboy, I only started Alg 1 in 8th grade made around a 97, then made an A- in geometry because I slacked off hardly did my homework and if I try Hopkins I will apply ED…so a better chance there, but the farthest you can really go in math in high school is Calc (my school only offers AB) so what’s the point?

because there’s something called a Community College that offers higher level math.

I don’t want to do dual enrollment with the community college, because the credit won’t transfer to JHU, that’s why I’m taking AP Biology next year instead of Dual Biology.

If you’re doing things for credit, then you’re limiting yourself.

Don’t only think of JHU, think of other colleges.
Besides, CC sciences might not be as strong as AP Sciences, but the CC Maths will.

You have a point…I shouldn’t be looking at things only for credit. So am I really that behind in the maths not having taken geometry in middle school?

Eh, it’s debatable. I never took geometry in middle school, though that was beyond my power. (Math is by far my strongest subject, and I’m only a sophomore in Alg 2/Trig, but self-teaching calculus)

If you want to get ahead in math, do it. Do what works for you.

I’m obviously getting ahead in the sciences taking 3 next year, math is also my strongest subject. So do you plan to try MIT ED?

If I feel strongly that MIT is a place I feel home at , I’ll do MIT ED. For right now, it’s EA.

I’m not limiting myself to MIT though, it’s certainly a difficult place to get in to.

It is isn’t it with a 10% acceptance, at JHU when I apply ED I’ll have around 50%. But the thing is another option I have is to get into a Texas state public college or university because the law guarantees admission to people in the top 10% of their high school class and UT Austin isn’t too bad and is a top party school, plus I won’t have to take the SAT.

But Hopkins is my number one choice.

I would always apply to a state flagship, but I recommend taking the SAT regardless.

MIT is my overall #1 choice, and the acceptance is under 10% last time I checked. So it’s definitely harder. So I have to become a stronger applicant. I’ll handle my grades, I just hope being a URM and good ECs will help.

Yeah, I will take the SAT regardless I am a minority as well, but an Asian so it kind of puts me at a worse place than a Caucasian. So how many AP exams are you most likely going to have taken before graduating high school?
