Depending on what you want to study, I would suggest Caltech, Berkeley, Pomona, Stanford if you can raise your SATs. Otherwise, one of the other UCs or Claremonts.

No, a 3.4 GPA and 1800 sats will NOT get you into Pomona, CalTech, Stanford OR UCB.

What are you interested in majoring in? Do you want a large, small or medium-sized school? Will you need financial aid? Are you a California resident or out of state?

Assuming for a moment that you're not a California resident, I'd suggest you start by checking out these schools: Santa Clara U, Chapman U, the University of Redlands, Loyola Marymount, Pitzer College, University of the Pacific, the University of San Diego, University of San Francisco, St. Mary's College of California, and Whittier College. If you can get your test scores up above 1950 or so, add the University of Southern California and Occidental to the list of possiblities.

If you are an instate resident, or an out of state resident interested in some of the California public schools, you'll need to take the SAT IIs to have a shot at the University of California so make sure you get those out of the way ASAP (if you're a senior your last test date for the UC's is December). I'd also suggest you compute your UC GPA and eligibility index to get a sense of your chances at the UC's and Cal States --- you find out how to do that at www.ucop.edu/pathways You'll also need to apply to the UC's between November 1 and November 30. Many of the more popular Cal State schools also have narrow windows of admissions so double check at www.calstate.edu.

the 3.4 gpa is unweighed. USC is on the top of my list, but my freshman and sophmore grades are the ones drasticly lowering my average, but my junior and senior grades are above average. Do you think USC will take this into consideration, or decline at first sight of my culumitive gpa?
