Chances at cal-states and some out of state publics w/ low gpa?

Hello, I just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions or advice to offer me on my college seach. I am going to be a high school senior at a very competitive California public school (top school in one of the 5 top districts in California I think). I didn't really try very hard at all during my sophmore year and was going through some rough **** and I ended up with a 2.4 overall that year, but I pulled my **** together somewhat in my Junior year and have a 3.0 overall with no c's, and in addition to this I have already and am currently taking summer classes at UC Berkeley that are weighted as honor-level so I have around a 2.85 overall. IF I do well first semester senior year I can bring this up to a 3.0, and I am definatly planning on trying to do this. My SAT scores were 700 m/680 w/650 rc (retaking in fall to hopefully bring to a 2100), and my SAT II scores are 670 us hist and 600 literature (retaking lit and taking math I which hopefully I can get around a 680 on). I know my **** is a lot worse than what is normal for this board but I just want some opinions. I am planning on applying to SDSU, Chico State, Humboldt state, and Cal-Poly as a large reach in terms of in-state, and out of state I am looking at University of Arizona, University of Oregon, ASU, OSU, UCONN, Boulder (both parents alum), Ohio-Columbus, Ithaca, and Northeasten (large reach). What sort of chances would I have at these schools? Any other schools you'd like to suggest? Thanks to all for help.

You're borderline for SDSU. With the change in the SAT's it's hard to tell, but I think you would have missed the cutoff last year. With the new 3-way SAT test it's worth a shot, since your SAT's are better than your GPA, and the relative weight of the two may have changed. Chico is a little less selective, so that's probably a go. (Terrific school, by the way - great college town atmosphere.) Humboldt's probably a safety for you. Cal Poly SLO is probably out of reach, but your chances at Cal Poly Pomona are good. Have you considered CSU Long Beach or Sonoma State?

Northeastern should be no problem. Your SATs are fine. Your grades are okay. Just write a good essay.

"Have you considered CSU Long Beach or Sonoma State?"

I'll probably apply to long beach but I think I'd rather just go to SBCC before id go to CSU Long Beach or Humboldt and transfer into UCSB

Really? I was under the impression that Northeastern was a pretty competitive school? Im pretty sure I would be able to write a good essay, im a really good writer. Would it really be an easy school for me to get admitted to? Are there any other boston area schools I should look at?

bump~~~~~~~

not from the brochures i got from them... they have a 3.3 GPA

Northeastern isnt that hard to get into. Northwestern is.

That sounds like a good plan if you want to go to UCSB or any of the UCs. Many people have taken that option.
