Hello everyone!
I applied to BU CAS as an International Relations major.
Currently, I have a weighted GPA of 4.644 (calculated on a 4.5 scale)
The weakest portion of my application was my test scores. I scored an 1840 (Critical reading 610, Math 630, and Writing 600) on my SAT I. On my SAT II I scored a 670 on US History and a 640 on Math II.
I am ranked 6th in my class.
I believe that the strongest part of my application was my essay. I wrote about all the volunteer work I have done over the years (my church’s food pantry, cooking for homeless shelters) and connected it to the work that I have done leading my school’s Invisible Children club (we raise money to end a war in africa where a man named Joseph Kony abducts children into his army and forces them to rap, kill, etc. Being involved has allowed me to travel to San Diego for a conference, meet Congressman Jim McGovern, and lead a region conference)
I also have a lot of extracurriculars including Field Hockey, 4 Years Varsity Golf (3 years participating in state championship tournament), prom dress collection committee( we collect prom dresses for girls in the community who cannot afford them), dance my entire life, Science Olympiad, and work
I believe the only other flaw of my application would be that I live in Massachusetts, where many applicants are from. Also, a few other people from my school have applied.
Thank you in advance for responding!!

Are you being serious? Like seriously, you have a 4.6 gpa and you’re asking if you can get accepted into BU? You must be lying about your gpa, because this is quite literally the dumbest question I have ever heard…

pspguy123: first of all, stop being a smart ass. second of all, the OP said its a 4.6 weighted on a 4.5 scale, which is very good, but its nothing crazy to get a reaction like that from you. I suggest you shut up.

cmm8224: Personally I think you’ve got a good shot. Your GPA and rank are strong and your EC’s show good involvement at your school. I think the topic you chose for your essay is good as long as you talked about the importance of your volunteer work to you and how it has shaped you as a person (since you said its the strongest part of your app I’m sure you did). From the information you have provided, your SAT’s are the weakest part of your app, however they are within the middle 50th percentile so don’t be discouraged. I’d say you’re a competitive applicant.
How is the rigor of your course load? Have you taken AP/IB/Honors classes? What kind of school do you attend? (private/public) and what is your graduating class size?

azavras: I have taken almost all honors classes (a few exceptions for electives) and then I have taken AP US History, AP Biology, and this year I am taking AP Calculus. I got to a public school and the size of my graduating class is 200

Grades are good and SAT 1 is pretty average. I’d say yeah
