<p>SATs- 3/10- 1580/2400, Math- 620, Reading- 470. I re-took them in June, so I am waiting on the scores right now.</p>

<p>I have been a camp counselor for 2 years. (leadership)</p>
<p>I am hoping to get into the NROTC, majoring in Nuclear Engineering. I am going to submit my NROTC app around June 24th, and my recruiting officer said my scores were good (I did not enter my March SAT scores) and we are going to do an interview soon.</p>
<p>But how do I look? Judging by a website my school has (Naviance) my test scores are up there, but here is the chart.</p>

your SAT is way below average at 1090
you ACT is way below average at 25
You have no AP classes? or just no AP credit?
Your chances are low for admission
Don’t know how much being in the corps will help you - it might, someone else may need to chime in here. </p>
<p>It would be really good if you did very well - 1300+ on the SAT scores you are waiting on. Even with that, your class rank might hurt you. </p>
<p>If I were you, I would: Go immediately to a regional admissions center, I would go to campus and visit the corps, I would visit the college you want to be in, I would go on an official tour of campus through the visitors center… I would get as many “checks in the box” on the A&M special interest Application. Show interest in A&M and apply early. Have good essays and do all 3 essays. Your best chance for admission is through joining the corps. I doubt seriously you will be admitted to the college of Engineering. </p>

<p>Forgot to mention, I’m taking 2 APs next year and 1 Honors. I just hope that it isn’t too late, since it will be my senior year. It sucks, because I have been trying to take an honors and AP since sophomore year, but my school refused to let me request any courses until they adopted a new program this year. </p>
<p>Also, If my SATs go up to, lets say >1300/1600, or >1800/2400 and my GPA goes up to a 3.3 (There is nothing I can do about my class rank due to some ridiculous programs) how will my chances look.</p>
<p>You still have a chance if you get your scores a little up. Though things aren’t looking good for you now.</p>
<p>Do you attend a regular public high school, as opposed to some sort of magnet or charter school? If so, your class rank would seem to indicate (to an admissions officer) that you either 1) slacked off a bit on academics/didn’t take the most rigorous courses offered - 2) don’t have the aptitude for a lot of the subject matter, or 3) Had some sort of special circumstances causing you to get stuck with a class rank like that (i.e. transfer weirdness or some such).</p>
<p>If the situation is 1 or 2, you might want to reevaluate engineering as your choice of a major. Its not easy. It really isn’t. Not saying you can’t do it, because I don’t know anything else about you or your circumstances, but just take another look and decide if thats really what you think you ought to be majoring in. If 3, try to get in touch with an advisor or someone to help you try to reflect that on your application so you don’t appear to be 1 or 2.</p>

<p>Yeah, the reason my class rank is so low is because my schools GPA is out of 5.6 because of special programs that only certain students are admitted to, which is ridiculously unfair. They are placed in joke AP and Honors classes that offer ridiculous extra credit (AP Philosophy for one) and get 4.6/5.6’s and still look amazing, while the kids that get 3.3s, 3.4s, and even 3.5s are stuck in the 2nd and 3rd Fifths of the class. Without the program, My rank would be sooo much higher according to my guidance counselor.</p>

<p>A&M is going to question why you were not one in thoes special classes.
You might taylor your optional essay towards this issue. At my daughters high school, the AP classes were not weighted - which is also unfair. Kids take the more rigerous AP & Dual Credit courses on Distinguished graduation plan and the count the same as the kids who take the easy route. More kids who take the easy route are in the top 10% of the class and get automatic admission than thoes who took the AP-Dual credit classes. One such classmate ended up his first year at A&M(automatic admission) with a 1.8 gpa. My daughter ended her first year with a 3.75gpa - a review admit.
This loop hole at her high school has been plugged, but only because the State of Texas demanded the advanced courses be weighted more. Not sure the reason our high school didn’t want to change on our own… could be we are a football powerhouse in the state providing two NFL QB’s in recent years…
However, my daughter’s third essay was about the choice to be ready to hit the ground running at A&M by taking dual credit & AP classes - or taking the easy route and being assured of automatic admission, deciding on the college ready classes and entering A&M with 27 college credit hours. We don’t know if this was the reason for her admission, she was in top 12% of her class with a 1200 SAT and 28 ACT… she was admitted into the 2nd hardest college at A&M to gain admission to, Architecture.
If you can get your SAT score higher, maybe try ACT - some kids just do better on ACT. Make sure you show interest in A&M.
The admissions people may already know how your high school ranks students.

<p>That’s very strange, I’ve never heard of the max being 4.6 and 5.6. You definitely want to make sure A&M knows about your school’s way of ranking.</p>
