I haven’t been truly yelled at by a teacher in a long time, but I was once when I was about six. I think it’s ridiculous for teachers to try to hold power over someone who’s a fraction of their age. I got into this spat with one of my teachers a few weeks ago, but he was such a coward that we ended up resolving it via another teacher. I never had any respect for him before, and I now have…negative respect. (It’s possible.)

Yelling is unacceptable.

The teacher should simply send students to the principal’s office, give them detention, verbally abuse them with sarcasm, etc.

You’re kidding aren’t you???

I think there’s a certain amount of yelling that’s tolerable, especially if it comes with efficacious teaching, but there’s a line between strict and abusive.

i love it when kids get yelled at but if a teacher ever exploded at me i’d probably cry

I (invariably - there’s no excuse) find it immature. I actually have a teacher that acts like a spoiled brat; when he doesn’t get his way, he leaves the class angrily and refuses to teach (not that that’s much of a problem - he isn’t really all that valuable as a teacher).

I had a science teacher who threw markers at us while screaming at the top of her lungs. She doesn’t work at that school anymore…

When I attended Catholic grade school someone was whacked daily!

Yeah my English teacher does it a lot. She never gets laid, apparently. We said she needs to, sad Brit.

Same goes for my narcissistic Galician Spanish teacher. She yells at a slight whisper. And is a *****. She needs to get laid. The other teachers are laid back and don’t yell.

They obviously have something else going on

I am generaly the ‘good’ student but if teachers yell at me for no apperent reason I act as the bigger man and act sarcasticly positive while keeping my voice not raised ie: teacher: teaching this class has been a waste of time me: well if u feel that way… Teacher: I don’t FEEL that way, it’s the truth me: ok.

See? Simple, easy, and I am the bigger man.

How do you guys not simply crumble and cower when a teacher beats on you?

before completely bashing the teachers,
let us remember that some students are really just plain d**ks, and teachers
have to deal with a large number of them day in and day out.
let us also remember that teachers are, as shocking as this may sound, human,
and that they have their days.

It’s very common in my school. Teachers yell and shout at students for no manifest reasons. Nuts! Helpless idiot! Bumpkin! You little turd!Have you lost your sanity? blablabla… We’ve inured to it.

that’s the way of Chinese…your situation is very pathetic…

I remember my science teacher in the sixth grade. One day I was giving a power point presentation and there was this kid that was goofing off during some of it, and who had had a long history of goofing off in class. Anyways, after I was finished, I guess that my teacher just lost it and my teacher just walked over to him, grabbed him by the arm and the student’s desk toppled over (as well as his chair) and the teacher told him to get out of the room. He shoved him out in the hallway. After class he told me that my presentation was really good. you can only imagine how awkward I felt after that.

The teacher was pretty bad at other times too. My older sister said that he ripped part of a podium off and threw it across the room. It barely missed a kid’s head. Another time he was mad and threw a big stack of papers across the room. He got off topic alot and was so mad with the class that he once said, “okay kids if you think that you can teach so well then you get up here and teach.” And so the kids went up there with books and just goofed off instead of teaching. He eventually quit. He was quite a … teacher. lol.

^ wow. Isn’t violence breaking some kind of rule? I had a teacher once that broke a projector, but he didn’t throw it at a student O.o

I think they’re pathetic for losing their emotional equilibrium to teenagers.

Too many teachers at my school try to be friends with the students. I absolutely hate it. During the last 30 mins of Bio where we get to do our homework by ourselves, he just lets the whole class talk without any regard to the students who are trying to be productive.

Yeah, I am pretty sure that teachers should definitely not be using violence in school. But then again the principal at the elementary school was so crappy that she probably would not have done much anyways even if she had known about what had happened. And about the podium thing, I don’t think that he intentionally meant to throw the part of the podium at the kid’s head, he just had a bad temper, was not thinking, and ripped it off and threw it across the room. In the process, it barely missed a kid’s head. It was completely pathetic that a grown man could not control himself in a professional environment.

When teachers yell I find it funny and quietly laugh but when they yell at me I act sarcastic and rude, granted I’ve only been yelled at once since 7th grade.
