Today my math teacher completely exploded at two kids in my class. We were taking a test, and he said something funny. Two students near the back heard it and exchanged glances at each other before laughing a little. Seeing the exchange of glances, my math teacher accused them of cheating and told them to get out.

My classmates were shocked and didn't know what to do, but he kept on yelling at them to get out. Near the doorway, he basically reprimanded them very, very loudly. Several of us still writing our tests got distracted by his tirade. Eventually, he let the two guys sit back down to finish their tests.

This incident reminded me of another one a year ago. My math teacher back then made a kid get out of the class because he didn't do his homework and wouldn't let him back in until the class was over.

Whenever I see teachers yelling at their students, I just think, "wow, these teachers are really mean teachers." If you want to discipline kids, why not give them a stern talking to? Why did my teachers get in-your-face, spittle-releasing, and homicidal at my classmates?

What do you think of teachers who yell at their students?

Many of my teachers yell at the students. Worse, some even refuse to teach and even enter the class for several days. 1 ever kicked a desk hardly. Most of the teachers who do so are the smartest ones.
I find them plain stupid. Why waste energy?

I have no tolerance for being yelled at. Especially when the teacher is supposed to be the more mature one.

When I was in HS, I had absolutely no problem yelling back at a teacher. And have on several occasions. It landed me in detention a lot, but they never raised their voice to me more than that one time.

You know that whole “do unto others” idea. If someone treats me one way, I take it as permission to return the favor.

It probably doesn’t help that I have a horrible temper.

My middle school social studies teacher in 7th grade kicked a desk because these 4 kids were talking over him in Spanish… and then he yelled at them like everyday for a week.

I don’t think I’ve been yelled at by a teacher, but I’ve been called out or been thrown snarky remarks. Bah, I ignore them for the most part. The comments bother me but I get over them soon enough. I don’t find it fruitful to react, but perhaps it’s because I just have had lower-than-average emotional energy these past 4 years thanks to some family problems, etc.
Whenever I see teachers taking their angst out onto students I just shake my head and make a mental note to never take another class with said teacher.
My ways of dealing with these things are passive but…I guess they work for me.

I find it really immature. They should be able to control their tempers. Some teachers seem to do it in a very controlled manner, however, out of a predilection to overindulge their senses of spite. That can be somewhat funny. In general, however, I find a cooler ire more terrifying, like my Human Geo teacher when a student called him by his first name.

My math teacher does a lot of yelling at my class when we don’t understand a problem and she has a heavy chinese accent. No one really feels intimidated when she yells they kidn of just block it out.

Teachers at my old junior high yelled so much that it became meaningless. They all walked around glaring at students, trying to act tough. Although, I eventually started talking back to them and they did nothing, lol.

I don’t know, I kinda think they’ve just hit their breaking point. But my history teacher would do this long stern, waste of class time, lecture on why we suck and it also usually happened when we wouldn’t laugh at his jokes.

My teachers generally don’t yell because we’re naturally good students.
But my physics class is different; it has students of all kinds include some stupid (literally) seniors on senioritis. Now, my physics teacher is generally a cool, lenient, and really funny guy. But one day he just finally snapped when this senior kept on eating, sleeping, and talking w/ others in class. He screamed for him to get out. I admit i was a lil shocked, but the kid deserved it.

The worst is when you have a teacher who’s usually funny and friendly, or mature and professional, suddenly explode at a kid who definitely deserves it. You can see it coming from a mile away, but it still shocks you.

My junior year English teacher was an intellectually intimidating person. He had a habit of asking students to verbally explicate sections of whatever we were reading and a policy of picking random students to answer them. If he found your answer poorly constructed (e.g. you’re not paying attention or just completely lost), he’d confront you in front of the class (but with a neutral, almost mocking tone that temporarily hurt your self-esteem). He had his students’ best interest at heart, but when you ****ed him off and he directed all of his energy towards you, your classmates started fearing for you, and the whole room would be silent while he destroyed everything about you that you ever felt good about.

Actually this may seem quite odd, but let me explain. My bio teacher last year was extremely lax, never said anything or taught anything, was extremely nice. Then my Human Geography teacher would yell, but with the yelling I think it demonstrates that she actually cared. So I prefer strict teachers, most of the time.

My physics teacher drops the f-bomb all the time to her (well, last year’s) AP students…a few weeks ago she threw a fan at the wall, and she threw a trash can before that.

And I absolutely love her haha. She’s one of the best teachers at my school, and I can sorta understand why she did it (her students last year were JERKS to her). :)

My AP Chem teacher kicked a kid out of class for asking a question. Granted, the teacher refused to answer and the kid insisted that he did, but it was still no excuse.

Another time, he made a kid stay after and yelled at him because he was asked to sit closer to the board twice.

There was a science teacher at my middle school who would break things and make his TA fix them. He had a bad temper; he would do things silently but deadly (oh haha.) Showed us the “miracle of life” videos without parent permission… He once got sued for racial discrimination and stuff. THANK GOD he was gone half the year I was there. Then he came back and taught humanities. o_O

I then never really came across such an irrational and impulsive teacher, but I honestly think that those kinds of teachers should be fired immediately. No contribution to the learning environment whatsoever.
