I've heard Geneso is the best SUNY aside from the Cornell ones but I've hear you dot really get a "college experience" there. with my grades I could definatley be accepted

I've heard Binghamton is good but it's like a major party school like Albany.

I've heard cortland is an all jock community but that's something I dont mind.

Anyway can you give me your opinion on these and maybe recommend other SUNY school? I want to major in childhood education and be within 4 hours of NYC NOT a school in the city. I have a 3.9 GPA and will probably get between a 15-1800 on my SAT. I Will have at least 10 hours of community service (there aren't a lot of opp for volunteer work in my area) I am in the SAVY (students against violence in youth) program at my school along with the key club(community service group) and g2l we organize community events. I will probably graduate with an advanced regents diploma with honors, only 2 kids in my school got it last year (my school has 3000) kids.

There are no SUNY Cornells. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a definitive answer on whether Geneseo is or Binghamton is “better”, they both definitely have their strengths. And I wouldn’t call Binghamton a party school… I mean, people party, but it’s the same at Geneseo or really any other campus. If you want early childhood ed, though, I think Geneseo is your better bet.

However, I’m hesitant to agree with you that with a 1500-1800, you could “definitely” be accepted to Geneseo. It’s a close race with Binghamton but Geneseo generally has the highest scores of the SUNYs and I would definitely not be entirely comfortable with something in that range.

That’s just my guess based on what I know of myself. I tend to underestimate what I do like my regents I though I failed but I got a 97 only reason o said definitely is because my counselor showed me some things and I fit every criteria but since I have not taken the SAT idk know. My counselor said the way I’m doing now I would get closer to a 22 but like I said I’m hesitant to believe that. Also it’s mostly just to get general info because i honestly don’t think geneseo is going to be my first choice

Okay, well yeah, wait until you actually take the ACT or SAT because that’ll give you a much better idea of your options. A 22 will basically cut Geneseo out of the picture.

Also I’d definitely recommend visiting all these places; Geneseo was my first choice until I visited.

OP meant the Cornell land grant colleges: Ag, ILR and Human Ecology. They are affliated with the SUNY system and have been in recent SUNY viewbooks but you would need to apply through Cornell and the not the SUNY application. They are, however, about half the cost of the other Cornell colleges and you do end up with a diploma that says Cornell and it does not specify your college. So you can get an ivy league education for about 1/2 price and you are treated the same as other Cornell students.

Oh, I know what you meant; I applied to Human Ecology myself. I don’t think they’re half the cost, though… I think my family figured out that it’d cost about 39k, which is still nice compared to ~55k, but not nice enough :(.

Woah that’s a lot. I haven’t actually looked at the Cornell’s, I was just curious but I definitely would have assumed it was much less then that. I’m feeling Cortland though, cheap, nice campus, right program, and close and far enough from home. I need more recommendations though because I have fallen in love with Cortland and I need more s hoops to apply to.

Jazzii, Alfred is probably more than 4 hours from NYC, I just noticed your first post.
It is an excellent choice for a private and not over 50k/year.

Alfred is also in an extremely small town and a very small school. Depending on what you want/like this could be good or bad. But I live near by and I can tell you, you’re not going to be doing much in-town, there’s pretty much the colleges and a couple of roads.

Yeah I’m not a small town girl, I’ve grown up in the city my whole life. I love the excitement I don’t think I would be comfortable in such a small town. Besides that the 38000 is not something I’m comfortable with either. The SUNYs are roughly 5k for tuition and a yearly cost of 14-18k. That’s about where I’m most comfortable b

I looked up bing and Geneso both schools apparently ate considered safeties. I use College ******* and it says avg SAT/ACT is 1390/22 and they both have about a 40% acceptance rate.

OP - Geneseo is definitely more than 4 hours away from the city. I toured the school several years ago and thought the campus was lovely. Geneseo offers some great programs but to get to the city within 4 hours, you’ll probably have to fly.

Have you considered New Paltz? The school is about 2 hours away from New York and the education program seems to be fairly good from what I’ve seen. I’m a history major there if you have any questions.

You can’t really consider Geneseo or Binghamton safeties bc they are the most selective SUNY’s and you don’t have all your stats yet. And if you are serious about being within 4 hours from NYC, then Geneseo won’t make your list anyway.

Oh I know Geneso is more then 4 hours. It’s not really an option. I was just saying because in my first post I wanted to see what people though of those schools. I’ve heard about most of them but I never hear people talk about Geneso so I was just curious
