This summer I am going to shadow a neurosurgeon. I was wondering if this looks good or does not play a major role in my applications (if i put it as my ec) because I am SUPER passionate about neurosurgery (the career I want to go into) and I just want some hard work to pay off. Obviously I would not mind if it doesnt look impressive, I just want the experience. I was just wondering how would it look on my ec’s
I think that’s a good EC. It’s interesting and it ties into your passion about neurosurgery.
It sounds like it will be a wonderful experience for you so definitely go ahead and do it. It should be a good use of your time this summer since you have a real interest in the field. Will it play a major role in admissions? Probably not. It is not all that uncommon for students to shadow a professional in an area of interest. So my bottom line is do it, make the most of it, learn from the experience, include it on your application – but don’t expect it to help get you into a college you are not otherwise qualified to attend.
