What do you think The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business?

What are your opinions on Fisher?

What are other schools that are academic peers?

What do you think of the Ohio State University as a whole?

Thank you for your responses.

@fbi251 My son and I toured the business school and spoke to several students during two visits (Fall Open House and Spring Admitted Students Day). We also spoke to a few students who currently attend Fisher from our home school district. Based on our observations and conversations, we think very highly of the business program. The facilities are relatively new and state of the art, and the students appear uniformly happy with their choice of Fisher. The school is one of the best for supply chain management and logistics and is strong in other programs (accounting, finance, operations management and marketing). Its industry cluster program and leadership & engagement office help develop professional preparedness and offer practical, real-world business experience. It’s office of career management (career planning/placement center) is also strong, with most students securing jobs upon graduation. Although rankings are not the be all and end all, they do give some perspective on perceptions, which is another important consideration. The 2015 USNWR ranks Fisher at 20th and the 2014 Bloomberg Businessweek ranks Fisher at 32nd for undergrad business programs in the country. Bloomberg Businessweek (2014) did a survey of how employers ranked the best undergrad business programs and Fisher ranks 15th (Indiana Kelley was #1). Forbes (2013) ranking of business schools (MBA) lists Fisher at 36. The Wall Street Journal has also rated Fisher as a top pick for recruiters. Peers would be other top business schools in the country.

Opinion of Ohio State as a whole is that the school has tremendous resources, with great academic and recreational facilities and so many departments, course offerings and majors (and minors) to choose from. Tremendous school spirit, with the national champion Ohio State Buckeyes football team and other top rated Division 1 sports programs, are just gravy. The 2015 edition of U S News & World Report has a best National University ranking which lists Ohio State at 54 in the country. For world perspective, Times Higher Education 2014-15 edition lists the best global universities and rates Ohio State as 68th in the World! And OSU is currently on an upswing, with more admissions applications (36,000 for Fall 2014 and 42,000 for Fall 2015) than ever before, and higher achieving students resulting from the more stringent admissions standards within the past 5 years. The school has also invested in infrastructure & student housing (several new dorms currently being built and new requirement that students stay on campus for freshman and sophomore years), and excellent sports recreational facility (the RPAC) for students. And being in the capitol city of Columbus, with downtown just down the road, provides other opportunities that students can enjoy and benefit from being in close proximity.

The Fisher School of Business is one of the best things about Ohio State. It is an outstanding business school (although not elite, such as Wharton).

Peers would include the Marshall School at Southern Cal, and Boston University. Nearer Ohio, Penn State is a near equivalent, while the Kelley School of Business at Indiana U. is a cut above Fisher and (for undergraduates) so is the Farmer School at Miami of Ohio.

Ohio State University is a well above average flagship university. It is also, of course, gigantic (third largest university in America). Nobody will hold your hand at OSU. Your education is entirely your own project. In other words, it can be intimidating.
