What do you think was the final kick into getting you accepted at your school?

Wht do you think helped get you into your dream colleges. Was it your test scores, essays etc. This can help future apps like me to never give up hope and that anything can happen.
Btw if you could explain why or how that cetain factor help gget you into your dream college/colleges would be much appreciated. Thanks to all!

No offense but unless you’re talking to alum with experience in admissions or admissions officers, what types of answers will you get that just aren’t sheer speculation from kids who are ingoing freshmen? I’ll be you can come up with a full list yourself, right now.

thats why I said THINK, I wanted to get people’s own opinions.

For me i think it was being well rounded, not in the sense that you do like 0934802394 different ECs, but that I had high SAT scores, a high GPA, good ranking, good recs, a humorous but deep essay, an internship in a NASA chem lab, and a few side minor ECs.
I don’t have the piles of high level math courses (I only went up to calc ab) or loads of awards or competitions and I had a lot fewer ECs than many people on here, but i had a really tight, balanced application. I was just lucky enough to have all my ducks line up in a row.

I didn’t do a ton of ECs in high school, but I really dedicated myself to the ones I did do, and was really passionate about them. I think this came through strongly in my essays, and definitely in my interview, so I’d say that’s what got me in. I also had a couple of unusual ECs that most top schools don’t see too often, not the normal high school clubs.

My grades and test scores were OK too, but according to a lot of people here they were horrible ;)

Another thing I really tried hard to do was tie my whole application together and make sure it showed the admissions committee the big picture of who I am, not just some random snippets. I think this helped a lot.

My main commonapp essay wasn’t very good. I have a suspicion that my supplement answers got me in, because I wrote one on how I’ve always learned mechanics and science and such even without school, and then I wrote a specific essay on why I loved physics. And I have some math extracurrics, and do well in math/science. Apparantley passion for learning hard-science turned Brown on.

^ lol at the post above, hard science turned brown on.
