Pretty much all of us here on CC are applying to what are known as the top schools of the US and even the world. Most of these schools are incredibly selective and have extremely high rates of rejection.

We've always talked about how we're applying to a place just for the heck of it but don't think we'll get in.

But now it's time to open up and be honest. Give one reason, JUST ONE short and sweet little "hook" if you will, as to what gives you that mere little glimpse of a hope....what spurs you to apply to schools like CHYMPS, etc. even though you're convinced you won't get in?

Basically, in about 25 words or less, explain why you think that a school like Harvard or Yale MIGHT just accept you if you send in your shot-in-a-dark application to them. Please be as specific as possible about your reason, don't just go: "My SAT scores" when you really mean "Oh I have lackluster EC's but I got a 2400 on my first try so they might just take me".

I'm applying to Yale (even though I highly doubt I'll get in) because I think the fact that I can read 9 different languages is pretty special (even though I don't actually understand most of them).

succeeded through life living with a medical problem and also passionate about vocal music, which I know not many people, particularly Indians do. :)

dunno. I have absolutely nothing special except a brutal 9th grade score (like... straight Cs).

It's like how little 6 years old wants to be an astronaut or a princess. There's just this feeling that everything will end up OK and I'll get into a place I want to. I dunno... I keep on trying to convince myself to be realistic, but... there's still that little thought in my head that I will be able to get in...

I'm not applying to traditional top schools, but I am applying to several tough schools as far as admissions go (namely, USMA).

I think I stand a strong chance despite a weak GPA because I took 2 years off and successfully ran a franchise of a multi-million dollar marketing corporation - and I was the youngest in company history to do so.

I think I have a pretty good shot because I'm profound deaf and worked a lot to overcome academic and social obstacles being deaf to be successful, and had contributed to a published research project with a MIT professor at a Harvard Medical School hospital for the past summer.
