Hey everybodii,, alright so im applying forr hotchkiss, PA, and exeter, and i was wondering whether you guys think i'll make it., im pretty sure i will though.
6th grade: 5B'sand 3 C's
7th grade: 4B's,2 A's, 1 C
8th grade: 3B's, 2A's, 3 C's.
Pardon my grades there average.
I am in 5clubs ( that oughtta count for something)=gardening, engineering, sports, chorus, multicultural and I play softball( not on a team though). I'm really nice and I made honor roll maybe 2 times. \
oh i got 85% on my ssat.

I suggest that this year you try to get all As and great grades. Hotchkiss, Andover and Exeter are extremely competitive and prestigious schools, so try to work hard this year, ace your interviews and write strong essays. Good luck! :)

Yeah, the grades need to come up. Decent (though not great SSAT scores) And only 5 clubs? You think that is a lot? Not to be rude or anything but a lot of kids you are competing against are straight A students with 7 or 8 clubs. I am in 6 clubs and straight A’s. BUT if you are really likeable (for lack of a better word) and write amazing essays, you still might have a chance. And like borderkid said, Good luck! :)

I would say five clubs is a lot, depending on participation. I have to agree with preppychica, as the average SSAT for a student to be accepted at Andover is 94% and the average grade is an A.

Very few boarding schools would look at a student with those grades, so you have a lot of work to do in 9th grade. I would suggest you look at this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/665444-clean-official-boarding-decisions-applicant-stats-ecs.html and I might even suggest you apply after 10th grade to repeat 10th grade and see if you can pull up your grades by then.

yeah. I guess if you are president or something. But if you just attending meetings and its an in school, meet twice a month club its not much.

Most middle schoolers dont have the option of 7 or 8 clubs, so try to do the ones that you can do.

Be sure to do especially what you’re interested in, not just because it’ll look good on your application.

Since you play softball, why not join a team?

Personally, I really don’t think that you should join anymore clubs and maybe you should even drop a few. You should focus on getting your grades up because grades are a bigger factor than clubs are. For example, I got into a HADES school and I was not a member of one single club.

I agree with GoBigRed12. If clubs take up a large portion of your time, drop one club that you’re not as interested in and devote the extra time to getting your grades up and studying.

Yes right now the most important thing is getting grades up. . . . forget about everything else just get your grades up.

@ applying123: You may want to consider lower-tier schools, just in case

You should try raising your grades.
The schools you’re applying to are really prestigious, and even though grades aren’t everything, they’re pretty important.
Do you have any leadership positions in those clubs?

Good luck!

Like everyone else has said, try to raise your grades.
I’ve heard from somewhere, though i’m not completely sure, that Exeter requires mostly A’s than B’s for grades. And try to find a hobby that separates you from the rest, something you’re really passionate about.
good luck! :)

I don’t want to discourage you, but (as everyone else has said) you REALLY need to get those grades up. Dramatically. Also, you should retake the SSAT- the average score at Andover was 94% I think.
As far as clubs and extracurriculars: remember, quality over quantity. The admissions officers really don’t care about the club that you show up to once a month just so you can say you did it.

How do the admisssions officer know how your quantity is in the club? You could really like the club but just started it and you can tell them that in your interview.

Urbanflop, I guess when they ask you about your EC’s, you can explain about your clubs and your passion for each.
