What does it mean to be a pre engineering student at University of Washington.

It means you’re intending to go into engineering but have not formally declared your actual major (ie. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering). On your student account, it will list your major as pre-engineering if you apply with your intended major as an engineering major. It doesn’t mean you can’t suddenly apply for a fine arts or biology major, it’s just a place holder.

Pre-engineering students are in the College of Engineering, pre-science (ie. biology) students are in the College of Arts and Sciences, etc.

Does being a pre engineering student have special benefits? The way they were described on the udub collage of engineering website were students that showed an interest in engineering before collage. And that many of the students were considered first for admissions and later on for different research projects.

I won’t be able to answer about special benefits, since I’m an incoming freshman doing computer science (close, but not engineering…).

This is a guess - I’ll have to leave it up to someone else in this forum to confirm - the interest in engineering before college is when you apply and mark that you intend to enter engineering at UW. This MAY OR MAY NOT be noted in applications to certain majors when you apply after first year, etc.

Sorry I can’t really answer your questions! I’m sure someone on the forum will be able to answer them though, but worst case just contact one of the engineering advisors :)

believe certain classes require (or at the very least it becomes easier) pre-engineering or an engineering major to register.
