What does it mean to be "Enrolled" in a college? CNU

<p>Okay, so I plan on applying to Christopher Newport, my first college choice, (CNU) this upcoming fall. I recently went to the campus for an open house and learned alot but something still confused me. When looking at the collegeboard.com (Pretty reliable?) admission statistics it list the previous years applicants as so: </p>

<p>Regular Admission
Total applicants- 6,831
Admitted- 4,412
Enrolled- 1,376</p>

<p>Early Decision & Action
Applied early decision - 430
Admitted early decision - 338
Applied early action - 2,843
Admitted early action - 2,148</p>

<p>What confuses me is that the whole college only has a mere 5000 students ovderall. And (confirmed by the president of college) the freshman class is only comprised of 1200 students. Does this mean that they received 6800 (around 9000 when including all admission outlets) applications, admitted 4400 of them, but only allowed 1200 in for the next year? </p>

<p>This is important because the selective-ness of the college is very important to me because i dont have the greatest academics at the moment. </p>

<p>Many websites have CNU at about a 50-56% for admission rate, but i dont see how that can be true. </p>

<p>Someone please clear this up for me!

<p>I was in same problem too. I’m clearing this up.</p>

<p>when 8000 people applied they say they have receive 8000 applicants. after that, when they admit 2500 , they say admission rate is 31.25% . and some of them will be admitted in two or more school. so they will attend one school only.when a student become a official student (choosing to attend ) of that university, they will say this student has enrolled in our class. all universities have lower rate of enrollment as people move here and there when they get accepted by one university.</p>

<p>All colleges admit more people than they have room for because they expect some students to choose other schools.</p>

<p>There is some confusion in your figures becuase of the initial heading of Regular Admission. That 6831 is total applicants not just those that applied regular admission. The 4412 is all admitted, and the 1376 is all who enrolled of those admitted, i.e., 3036 of those accepted decided to go elsewhere. Those early decision and early action figures are included in those totals. Despite a goal of enrolling 1200, the college had more freshman enroll, 1376, than it wanted as a total.</p>
