What does my essay score mean? Should I retake?

Hey Guys!

I recently got my ACT results from the test I took October 24th as a junior. I got a 35 composite, with a 36 on english, 34 on math, 36 on reading, and 35 on science. However, my essay score was a 28. I don’t really know much about the essay or how much colleges care about it, so I figured I would ask here.

Is a 28 a decent score? (I know it’s not awesome because it’s graded out of 36) Will it help/hurt my chances with college apps? (I have a 4.3 right now and am looking at top tier schools) If so, should I retake the test? I’m only a junior, so I have a good few chances to retake the test if it’s needed.

Thanks so much!!

Same question here. Am going to wait it out and hope colleges note that they know the ACT writing is ridiculous. If retake it, will likely wait until next year and hope they work the norms out

@kev7710 yes 28 is very respectable. Not all schools require the reading, so best to check if you even need it.
Congratulations on starting early and your scores.
