My status changed to provisional admit. Does this mean I was accepted? I applied to an impacted major (computer science), and I have completed all golden four and required supplemental coursework. I had to drop a class this semester (not one of the golden four or supplemental course work). Will this affect my admissions? I called the school and they couldn’t give me any info
Yes, it means you have been accepted. You just need to maintain your current GPA (pretty flexible) and pass your current courses with a C or higher. As long as the dropped course is not a major requirement, you should be fine. I would still send an email with your course update so you have some documentation.
@Gumbymom I’m a little confused as to what major requirements are. When I refer to the impacted majors website, it only lists the golden four, and one CS course as required supplemental coursework. When I go to assist.org, however, there are a lot of courses that I haven’t taken, yet I still received a provisional admit.
When you say “As long as the dropped course is not a major requirement” are you referring to the supplemental coursework listed on the impacted majors requirements page?
The Required courses are courses posted on the CPP website that need to be taken prior to matriculating. The supplemental courses are not required for admission but helpful your major.
@Gumbymom could you provide a link for that? The only thing I can find online about transfer requirements states that I need a certain amount of transferable initiative, golden four courses, and required supplemental coursework because my major is impacted
On the assist.org, will you finish all the required core courses and support courses listed for your CCC? This is what is meant by supplemental coursework along with the Golden Four and the CS240 equivalent. I just looked at Mt Sac’s courses for CS transfer to CPP and they list the following: http://web2.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=1&sia=MTSAC&ria=CPP&ia=MTSAC&oia=CPP&aay=15-16&ay=15-16&dora=COMP+SCI
Not sure which CCC you are attending, but if you dropped any of the courses listed as required or support then you need to inform CPP. Which class did you drop? Also did you speak to your transfer advisor prior to dropping the class?
That’s the thing, I was never enrolled in three of the required support/core courses listed on assist (diff. Equations, linear algebra, biology), and never indicated that I was planning to take them, and they still gave me a provisional admit.
The class I dropped is on the required core list, but like I stated before I was missing three core courses and I was still given provisional admit. That’s why I’m so confused
If they accepted you based on you missing a couple of the required core classes then you should be fine. I would still email and call admissions to make sure that dropping the class is OK. I noticed if you call admissions with a hypothetical question in regards to dropping a course, they always say that cannot make a judgement until you drop the course which is ridiculous. I would still try to get some kind of documentation that everything is fine with your admission.
Which required core course did you drop, exactly? And get in contact with them ASAP about it.
I’m kind of the same boat as OP.
I got provisional admitted too and I have done pretty much all the GE except Physics I and II. I just cannot get a Physics course at this community college and there is no comparable courses for the core courses. I am taking Chemistry I, Biology(short term), History(short term), and Nutrition(short term). I have passed Nutrition and Biology with As. I will know about Chemistry I and History at the end of this semester. I did state that I was going to take Physics I in the spring, but like I said, I just could not get the course. Am I gonna get denied? I have 87 credits with a 3.747 GPA.
@Plotix I spoke to someone from admissions and they were able to give me more information. My major is computer science, which is an impacted major. There is supplemental coursework required for impacted majors to have completed before transfer, listed on their website https://www.cpp.edu/~admissions/advising/impacted-majors.shtml
The course I dropped was not one of the required supplemental courses, althought it was on the required support/core courses listed on assist.org. The admissions rep told me that as long as I didn’t drop any of the supplemental courses listed on the cpp website, I’d be fine. She even told me “congratulations, looks like you’re in.”
Great news @jimontgomery. That is why it is always best to contact the source and get a confirmation. Good luck and enjoy CPP.
