what does the waitlist supplement WANT?

i am planning to write an essay tying something about me to columbia (i don't want to say just in case someone steals the idea, so i'm keeping it intentionally vague) and also updating them on recent awards. is this sufficient and within their expectations? thanks!

Columbia has determined that they had additional 3000 spaces available to waitlistees. writing a letter will gurantee a position for you.

^ false, obviously…writing a supplement will be good as they suggest to do so in the waitlist letter, what you have is good, go with it

thank you.

sorry when did you receive the letter that tells you about the supplement? I’m also on the waiting list but I didn’t get a mail in the mailbox

artingchang, If you did not receive the letter that tells you about the supplement how do you know that you are waitlisted? The recommendation that you need to send in the supplementary statement was in the decision letter as far as I know and they do not mail decision by regular mail unless you are accepted. You have to check it online.

yeah it’s all in the online wait list letter, they tried to save paper this year and not send out snail mail waitlist or rejection letters lol

How do you know that Columbia has 3000 openings for waitlist? Or is that how many are on the waitlist? Either way where do you get this information?

His joking. Don’t take it seriously at all.

I got a hard copy of my decisions letter :D

To whom shall this supplement be sent to? (the wait list supplement) on email or mail? and to which adress if on email? :D

Thanks!

johncc888 is not joking; he/she is simply wrong. Based on real numbers, Columbia will likely accept about 100 students off the waitlist (based on historical yield data).

If you’re waitlisted at C’s Fu school, should you send your letter to The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science / Columbia University
510 S.W. Mudd Building / 500 West 120th Street / New York, New York 10027

or the general:

Columbia University
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
1130 Amsterdam Avenue, MC 2807
New York, NY 10027, USA

cassielam09, why are we personifying a waitlist statement?

pbr, you are wrong - johncc888 was using a literary device that we refer to as sarcasm…

^I would agree to the possibility of sarcasm, but for the fact that he/she has posted the same false information on several threads. Those with a healthy sense of humor tend not to tell the same joke over and over…

“Sarcasm” does not belong in waitlist threads where folks are looking for some tangible information - given that no one knows how many are waitlisted or how many will be accepted from waitlists. These are folks who have been trying to do everything they could -to get accepted to their top choice school for years! Do they deserve “sarcasm”?
