Yes i did apply for the scholarship deadline. By the end of December they said that they completed a preliminary review and reported a few missing documents ( which i did actually send ) and i duly faxed them over in time.
I hope they dont use that against me and say that i applied for the non-scholarship deadline. In fact i actually did send those documents over with all other material. I dont get how they said that its missing. I did report this problem to the admissions office
I also applied for the part 1 application if it makes a difference.

I've been in "premilinary review" for about 6 weeks, and I applied for Dec 10, AND did my Part I back in September...

My status says the same thing as aj16's.

"We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application.
Status last updated: 12/21/2007 "

I feel that they haven't even started looking at my app. Don't have a good feeling about it. And it's been so longgggggg.

Mine has been in preliminary review for a long time as well, since 12/19 or something.

AJ16- It doesn't matter if some documents were missing. As long as your main application was submitted by Dec. 10, and you submitted the missing documents in a timely manner, you will be considered for a scholarship.

D just got admitted to USC but her status page is still displaying

i have no idea...but i'm freaking out...cos it's my top choice...and it currently says: "We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application"

is it a step higher than preliminary review?

This is so strange. For me, it was the step before preliminary review, but apparently for others, it isn't. I don't understand this system anymore.

Yeah its wierd I dont get it....but it seems most internationals I know have their status stuck on "We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application" and it dosnt seem to change except if we have missing documents.
And yes for me to the preliminary review was complete before they put up the above status

I received a mailed notification of my acceptance today. My online status remains:

Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.

Thanks for the advice everyone! It helped calm me down a ton. Good luck!

p.s. I called admissions thursday because I realized I had sent some scores incorrectly. The admissions officer on the phone asked me twice if I was sure I hadn't been accepted already. I told them I hadn't received anything in the mail since december, and they responded that "we are still tracking your application." In retrospect I find this very amusing.

p.p.s
Apparently I'm not being considered for a scholarship- I can't log into the event RSVP system referenced in the scholarship thread. I'm surprised to have received an acceptance this early while not being a scholarship candidate.

^ it's possible USC is starting to send acceptances that do not have scholarship interview invitations involved, but it might also be a case where your ID is not yet entered into the system for the RSVP thing. Separate letters for scholarships come 4 or 5 days after acceptances. Not to give false hope, but just wait a few days. Just seems a bit early to receive acceptances now, without the scholarship considerations.

D couldn't log in either. Maybe there is a delay because her online status still has not changed either.

What does it mean if you receive this message? Does it mean that I am probably going to be rejected?

We have completed a preliminary review of your application. We sometimes request additional information (senior-year grades, for example), so be sure to watch the mail. You may submit senior year grades at www.usc.edu/MDYResponse, even if we did not specifically request them. We are continuing to review applications and expect to mail notification of a decision by April 1st.

^ Not at all, everybody gets that.
It's the notification you get after "we have received.." and before " is being reviewed..." . It's the notification status that tells you that all's in order and that generally stays the longest, until the committee actually evaluates.

mine says "we have received"

so if you still have a "preliminary" message from early jan...does that mean the committee hasn't evaluated ur app for admission yet? i don't get it...why do they send in acceptances w/o evaluating everyone? how do they decide who they evaluate first?

^Maybe there is some sorting that takes place during the actual preliminary review, where certain applications get put aside from others, particularly in the case of apps that are submitted before Dec 10.

I got acceptance today... like others, my status has not changed from 'under review' and I cannot log into the scholarship page. I am comforted that others have the same situation... a week's time will tell how we really stand.

is everyone who got their letters today/yesterday from socal?
