What else do I need to do to get accepted into CSE?

I’ve been taking AP courses since the start of freshman year, my GPA is at a 4.0 (kept straight A’s up to now), I’ve done some ECs including being a math tutor after school, secretary of the student council, and the one I’ve been most passionate about is art club, as I love love art, so I’ve been an active and passionate member for 2 years now. Due to personal family circumstances, I can’t really do anymore after school stuff like art club or even STEM next year. The most I could do right now is work at my parent’s shop and help them out. I’m also planning to study CS, as it’s my dream to be a software engineer for Google someday, so on the side at night and after school I spend time on the laptop (albeit a little too much) working on projects on Github and stuff I wanna make for others, learning to program in Python and C etc.

Would that be enough to make me stand out and get accepted into UMN CSE? Or would I still need more ECs somehow to make myself stand out aside from my grades? I’m willing to work hard to get into the school of my dreams

My S17 was accepted into CSE with a 3.9 UW GPA and a 32 ACT. He had a lot of EC’s but I believe you GPA is definitely in the ballpark. Have you taken the ACT, SAT or PSAT? What are your scores?

@jpc763 I’m gonna be taking my third PSAT this fall and the SAT next spring, but my last PSAT score was a 1220 (I feel as though I could’ve done better because the day I took that test I had stayed up the night before and then woke up grumpy and tired with a headache), which I’m hoping to improve in junior year. Perhaps I should also take the ACT to compare some time

So according to a site I looked at, your PSAT translates to a 26 ACT. It appears you are a Sophomore? If so, keep working on it and try to get that PSAT score in the 1400+ range. Minnesota uses your ACT/SAT score as a big part of the admission process. Are you in state or out of state?

@jpc763 Alrighty, so I’m getting there. I’ll be sure to study over the upcoming summer. And also, I’m out of state (Currently living in a small town in Florida)
