My son’s GPA (unweighted) is 3.2, but he has taken the ACT twice scoring 32 both times. Only 2 AP classes, but now doing PSEO. What might his chances be of getting into CSE?
The AP and PSEO will help, assuming he does well in his courses. Obviously they are going to look very closely at his Math and Science grades. The 32 on it’s own isn’t the problem but the uw GPA might be. In-state?
Edit to add: does he know his class rank?
He’s getting mostly A’s in PSEO, but that won’t come into play since he is applying for early decision next week. We are in-state. Hope chances are higher for in-state.
@Bay_blade2000 They are. Did he specify a backup college/major just in case?
If the grade trend is positive, that will help too.
Called UMN admissions office. I was told that UMN will not render “deny” decisions until after the holidays. So, we will get a chance to update the PSEO grades (all A’s. Yay) on the application before UMN makes decision on our application. Also, UMN said that they will re-review the application any time new information is added. FYI.
Think they give defers earlier than the holidays? I only have a 3.45UW GPA but the message updated in my tracker so I guess I hear back tonight. Hoping for the best!
@bassclarinet9 - not sure of all your stats or your 2nd choice major but last year applicants were admitted to 2nd choice around this time. So it’s one or the other most likely. Defers came out much closer to the decision deadline in last Jan.
You can also check your communication center. Log into My U and click Key Links, then Student Center from the drop-down. Once Student Center is loaded scroll over to far right and see what messages are waiting in the Communication Center.
I was stupid and put Computer Science as my second choice so I’m guessing that won’t make much difference. Guess I’ll check my Comm Center.
Nothing pending there so hoping for the best!
@bassclarinet9 good luck to you!
@JBStillFlying Thanks!
Updated senior year 1st term GPA from PSEO (4.0 yay!!), but still no word from CSE. Getting nervous/anxious/frustrated. Is no news = bad news??
I haven’t heard back either, trying to get into CBS, with CLA as my backup. Also wondering if no news is bad news too
