PSEO university of Minnesota

I am a junior in high school hoping to do PSEO next year at the university of Minnesota.
I have a gpa of 3.75 with many AP and CIS classes and have participated in many extracurricular activities. Wondering if anyone knows my chances of getting accepted?

I know a number of students doing this. I don’t think it’s super hard to get accepted. Do you have an ACT score or are you taking it this spring? Are you currently a junior? Everyone I know that applied did have an ACT in range for admission.

The one thing I have heard about PSEO at the U of MN is that it can be difficult to get the classes you want/need. You will be last to register. It helps to have some flexibility in terms of classes and scheduling going into the process. Like if you have your general eds done, that can help. My own kid actually decided to go the community college route based on this because he needed very particular classes to fulfill his gen eds for graduation. He also doesn’t have much schedule flexibility due to extra curriculars. I know another kid who was accepted but after trying to register went back to do PSEO at a community college because he couldn’t schedule any classes he needed.

I also would say, all my kid’s CC classes have been taught by full profs with small class sizes and great teacher access which you also might not have get at the U. Many teach at other twin cities college campuses. Both my husband and I are U of MN TC alum and we live near campus. I love the U of MN but the PSEO program is not super welcoming or user freindly IMO.

My daughter is in her second year of PSEO at the U. She did not have an ACT score to submit, but when she was admitted, they told her that they turned away kids with 4.0 GPAs and it was the most competitive year yet. I think it’s worth it to apply and see what happens; PSEO at the U has resulted in her getting all her generals done and she’s started work on her major. It’s super tough, but if you’re successful in the challenge you’re basically guaranteed admittance to whatever college you want at the U. (My daughter’s doing CSE next year.) She’s had a great time, met a lot of people, and really felt the support of her advisor, professors, and TAs. Even though she registered last, she didn’t have any problems getting the classes she wanted.
