So I just signed up for the ACT on February 9 after being advised to do so by my guidance counselor.

This is a list of everything I know about the ACT:

Its a standardized test

That's about it. I've taken the SAT several times but never the ACT... Is it very different? Does it have the same three sections? Will my SAT prep serve to prep me for the ACT or should I do something else? Is it scored the same as the SAT?

Those of you who know about such things, I would appreciate your wisdom.

It’s an alternative to the SAT. It tests more subjects than the SAT but is more straightforward than the SAT. Your SAT prep will not help you much for the ACT. Its scored out of 36 for each section and the composite score is also out of 36. You can find more info on the ACT site.

You could look up the logistical information about the ACT and the format, but it basically boils down to English, Math, Reading, and Science and each individual section is given to you all at once versus the SAT that will split these sections up with many smaller breaks in between. I personally thought the ACT was easier and the format is relatively different. There’s also an essay portion but I believe you get the essay last versus the SAT where the essay comes first.

I suggest you check out an ACT prep book and skim through it at least to know the format and style of the questions. But SAT prep should do you some good here.

All in all, this is just my take on the ACT and I hope this helps!
