What exactly counts as research experience

Hi I am a college fresher planning to persue MS in computer science. I am from india. I wanted to know what exactly counts as a research experience: u have to get ur articles published or prepare a thesis on a topic or just get a letter signed from ur professor etc etc....

Plz help me regarding this.

Research Experience can be anything related to academic projects. The best way is to find a professor and join his research group. You don't have publish papers, but it would help a lot. All you have to do is contribute to the groups academic pursuits and put it on your resume. Most likely you'll use the leader of the group for a recommendation letter. I would suggest moving through a couple of research groups your first two years and find what you are most interested in. Then focus on one group and make as many contributions as possible. This will maximize graduate school / work options later and also help you decide what your interested in. Be sure not to let your GPA drop by spending too much time on the research.

I look at CS resumes for potential employment at the national laboratory I work in. Its obvious, but just to make sure: Working as a IT technician or computer help desk person does not count as research. If you do this, your doing it only for the money.

I hope this helps you.

thanks a lot fr ur help.
