What exactly does ND Scholar mean?

Hey, I was just accepted to ND, and recognized as a ND scholar as well. Could anyone tell me what exactly this means?

some comments from the net...

A Notre Dame Scholar is an honor given to the top 20% of our admitted pool. That means that those students had the highest class ranks, GPAs, and standardized test scores.
...

Approximately the top 20% of our admitted students (based on academic credentials) are named Notre Dame Scholars. Notre Dame Scholars who qualify for need-based aid may receive a preferential financial aid package, depending upon their eligibility for aid. We also recruit our Notre Dame Scholars to join our admissions ambassador programs.
...

Notre Dame Scholars who also have demonstrated financial need will receive financial aid with less in self-help, and therefore more in scholarship aid.

It doesn't sound like there is any guarantee financial award, just an acknowledgment of one's academic achievement.

does it just tell you in the letter that you are an ND scholar?

yes, it does.

do they decide who the nd scholars are during EA or do they wait until RD
