What exactly is a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE

<p>What exactly is a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE. Is this something I must submit to all my universities. Only three universities I've applied to are under the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE list:
Boston University George Washington University University of Michigan</p>

<p>The CSS Profile is a financial aid application form that is administered through the College Board. You only submit it to colleges that REQUIRE it. If your school requires it, you must submit it in addition to the FAFSA to be considered for full need based aid including institutional funds.</p>

<p>Thanks,</p>

<p>Is there a list of schools that require it?
I’m not sure if this would be it: list:<a href=“https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/prf/PXRemotePartInstitutionServlet/PXRemotePartInstitutionServlet.srv”>https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/prf/PXRemotePartInstitutionServlet/PXRemotePartInstitutionServlet.srv&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>*What exactly is a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE ? *</p>

<p>I’ve heard it’s like a very “thorough” health exam. ;)</p>

<p>I did more research into, apparently all the schools on the list more than likely requires css profile ( haven’t read that it was required on their website though). I still would like to know about css/ profile and also how to get a fee waiver.</p>

<p>Coolbreeze…go to your college website…and go to the search function. Type in “financial aid application” and you should get a link to the required forms AND the deadlines. It’s on EVERY website.</p>

<p>^^ lol  actually i had to submit it to six or seven colleges (and they cost $16 per college you send it to; and I also had to submit the non-custodial profile which was another $25-- yeah my wallet was hurting after that)</p>

<p>but it is a pretty extensive form that asks for your parent(s) tax return-- and yours if you have a job-- info and you need to have their most recent tax return info right in front of you because they ask for things that are on specific line numbers (i.e. what ia the total amt of wages, salaries, blah blah that your parent earned (line 39) ) </p>

<p>so be prepared with all of your parent(s) info right in front of you or it will be a much longer process than it needs to be</p>

<p>ps: it asks for how much your parent has in to bank (in savings and checking) at that moment, so ask for that info too.</p>

<p>Here’s the list of schools that require CSS</p>

<p><a href=“http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/PROFILE_fees.pdf”>Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

<p>The PROFILE service provides fee waivers automatically to domestic (U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens)
first-time students from families with low incomes and limited assets. (Fee waivers are not
available to international students.)
During the 2009-10 application cycle over 12,000 students (7.5% of domestic first-time PROFILE
applicants) received fee waivers. Almost 18% of non-custodial parents of domestic first-time
PROFILE applicants received a fee waiver when filing the Noncustodial PROFILE. In total, the
College Board award almost $775,000 worth of fee waivers during the 2009-10 application cycle.1
In an effort to reach as many qualifying students as possible, the PROFILE fee waiver process is
fully automated based on the family and financial information given in the application. PROFILE fee
waiver guidelines are as follows:
• The PROFILE fee waiver program applies the USDA reduced price lunch income
guidelines to the CSS Institutional Methodology (IM) definition of total parent income. Total
parental income includes both taxable and untaxed income, with the exception of the
Earned Income Credit. More information about current reduced price lunch income
guidelines may be found at [School</a> Meals](<a href=“http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd]School”>http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd).
• Parental assets are also included in the fee waiver eligibility assessment. Dependent
students whose parents report net assets in the excess of $34,450 are not eligible for a fee
waiver.
• The fee waiver covers the application and six total school reports. First-time students file
an average of three PROFILE reports; thus the fee waiver process meets the needs of most
entering students.
• Payment is not required until the application is submitted. When students submit their
applications, they will be notified of their charges or their fee waiver receipt.
• Students who do not qualify for the fee waiver or who need to submit their reports to more
than six schools may pay for their PROFILE charges using a credit card, debit card, online
check or a Fee Payment Code.
• A limited number of PROFILE colleges and sponsoring organizations provide Fee
Payment Codes to students. Each Fee Payment Code may be used to pay for one college or program report and students may use up to six Fee Payment Codes during the processing year. For more information or to order Fee Payment Codes, see the attached service description and order form.</p>
