What exactly is provided in "housing"?

I apologize in advance because I am asking a lot of questions at once and is expecting a lengthy and detailed answer. >.<

I recently received the Residence Hall Living packet through the mail which introduces the system that allows dorm furniture (bedsheets, towels, pillows, “Bedside Buddy’s(LOL)”) to be purchased and sent to me. On the order form, pillow is listed as a purchasable item. I’m a tad confused by this because I was under the assumption that everything that was provided during orientation would remain there (that being, the trash can, closet, desk, matress, etcetc)

So, to cut a long story short, what exactly is provided when I enter the residence halls on Sept 18/19th (move in day)?? Desk, closet, and bed frame I’m ASSUMING is there for sure. What about…

Desk lamp?
Full-Body Mirror (Just wondering cuz they had it in orientation)?
Chair?
Pillows? Bedsheets? Blankets?
The brown, whiteboard-like, board but is used to pin things on? (Sorry I have no idea what it’s called)
Trash can?

Thank you VERY much for your time and PLEASE reply if you have any clue what is provided. I also have a few questions left but I’ll save them for later since I don’t want to flood this post with even more questions. :)

It may have changed in the past 4 years but it really depends on where you live. There is a provided desk lamp in some locations but it’s more like ambient lighting than point source. Some places may provide full-body mirrors but there weren’t in Tercero Thille when I was there. A very uncomfortable chair is provided unless you’re lucky enough to get steel case chairs. Pillows, bedsheets, and blankets are NOT provided. There should be a corkboard in your room and most likely a whiteboard outside your door. Trashcans are provided.

I can assure you that a desk, closet - unless you’re in a double converted into a triple then you might have to make your own, and a bedframe (convertable to loft).

A side note is that you can also rent/bring your own refrig and microwave.

I’m assuming mattresses are provided…what are the rates for renting a fridge?

Thank you very much for the excellent responses! A few questions on the side:

If I bring a poker set (cards and chips), is it a prohibited item?
Is it okay to use an alarm clock? Won’t it wake other rooms?
How far is the nearest Target/Walmart from Davis (by car) so I can buy a cruiser bike??
How many pairs of shoes are people bringing to Davis, not including rainboots and shower slippers, etc.?
I’ve experienced how hot it can be in Davis, but how cold does it get during the colder seasons?

Sorry for the many questions, I just wish to be completely prepared.

Oh and also, what household appliances are shared between those in the same building?

Washing machine and dryer and what else? Would/Should I need to bring a water boiler to put in my room?

No rules against having a poker set.

Yes, you can use alarm clocks. I doubt it’s that loud, and if it really is, use your phone or something. I used my phone the entire year, and my roommate had this alarm clock that got increasingly louder, and one day he left it on for HOURS. No one complained though, you could hear it outside the window a bit but not in the other rooms, at least i don’t think so.

I suggest you don’t buy a bike from Target/Walmart. Davis is the most bike friendly place you’ll probably ever see unless you go to the Netherlands :stuck_out_tongue: You can get a bike in one of the many bike shops around Davis, plus it’ll be of better quality and probably cheaper as well.

I brought one pair of shoes and one pair of flip flops. Only wore the flip flops in the shower. I suggest rain boots if you don’t want your shoes getting wet.

In the coldest parts of winter (Dec-Jan) it’s usually about 50F or so during the day.

Washing machine and dryer are all I can think of that would be common for every building. My building had a kitchen and a fridge but it might be different depending on the building. You should bring a water boiler, it’s a really convenient thing to have and it’s incredibly useful.

Thanks for the bike suggestion and your responses. I will heed your warning :)

The problem with shoes is that not including normal shoes, I already have rainboots, shower slippers, in-dorm slippers, and basketball(indor) shoes :(
