<p>sry if it is not necessary to start a new thread for this:</p>

<p>next fall i'm staying in a single at Rieber terrace. i don't know what my room provides so i'm a clueless shopper. which of the following items are not provided in my specific dorm and which can be rented at a reasonable price?</p>

<p>i'm also confused with what my room looks like. i know that i have a common bathroom, but w/ how many others? would i get notified aug 27th who my bathroommates are? (i have no roommates in a single!)</p>

door mirror
vacuum
snack table
hangers
hooks
iron, ironing board
drawer organizers (only 4 compartments provided?)
~for clothing
~for other items
bookcase/shelving unit
towel rack
shower curtain, shower curtain liner
toilet brush (there'll be people to take care of cleaning once a wk so i don't need this?)

<p>how is the single in RT compared to the rooms i had during orientation? are there the same desks, drawers, and closets?</p>

<p>A friend of mine was in a single in Hedrick Summit, and he told me he got a list of his suitemates (bathroommates I guess) in August. </p>

<p>You'll get a bed, a desk, a freestanding closet, and I believe a set of drawers with four drawers. The closets have hooks and some drawers I think, and should have a mirror in the door. The desk has kind of a shelving unit I guess; you probably saw this at orientation. You can borrow a vacuum from your RA or from the front desk at Rieber Hall.</p>

<p>A quick note about the mirrors: OP asked about singles, but in triples, the closet under the lofted bed does not come with a mirror.</p>

<p>nightstand - there is not a nightstand and truly no room for one. </p>

<p>door mirror - some rooms have them, others don't and you won't really find out until move-in.</p>

<p>vacuum - most RA's have a vacuum you can borrow throughout the year. </p>

<p>snack table - um... what's a snack table? in any case, i'm pretty sure it's not in the room. and i'm assuming you're either in Vista, Terrace or Summit, right? So, there is a decent sized table in the common area of the suites. </p>

<p>hangers - have to bring your own. </p>

<p>hooks - over the door hooks? i only ask b/c technically any sort of wall hook is not permitted. (can't put any holes in the walls!!!) however, you still have to bring your own. </p>

<p>iron, ironing board - you definitely have to bring your own iron. some laundry room have an area that you might be able to use as an ironing board but, i would reccommend that you bring your own. </p>

<p>drawer organizers (only 4 compartments provided?) - if you want organizers, you have to bring them.

<p>bookcase/shelving unit - there's a short set of shelves that sit on the desks other than that, there really isn't too much room for a bookcase in the dorm rooms. </p>

<p>towel rack - there should be a towel rack but, its been a while since i visted the singles in the new buildings so I'm not 100% sure on this one.</p>

<p>shower curtain, shower curtain liner - don't need it. the showers already have some sort of curtain/door. </p>

<p>toilet brush (there'll be people to take care of cleaning once a wk so i don't need this?) - yup, you don't need it. </p>

<p>bath storage tower - you'll have to bring it yourself. </p>

<p>As someone already posted, in most of the rooms, the furniture provided is: desk w/shelves, dresser, and a bed w/ mattress. if there's anything else you want, you'll have to bring. however, keep in mind, there is not THAT much space in a room - even if you are in a single.</p>

<p>It only comes with a bed, wardrobe/closet (with a rack, two drawers), a separate drawer (4 sections), and desk/chair w/ shelf. Pretty standard furnishings common to plazas.</p>

<p>The bathroom (2 sinks, 1 toilet, 1 shower) is shared with 4 other people. The towel racks are there too.</p>

<p>i've gone to orientation already and i'm coming to LA for one day: sat, aug 25. is there any way i can be admitted into a single RT dorm to check things out ahead of time? i live in MN now so it's not like i can come to UCLA any time. is the configuration similar to the one online?</p>

<p>I think it'll be difficult to get access it in person. Seriously though, I think everyone in this post gave great descriptions of what it is like. What else do you want to know?</p>

<p>Yeah, the floorplans are accurate. It's exactly like that. 10 rooms total split into two sides with the living room connecting them.</p>

<p>It has a large table with ~6 chairs. You can put a fridge there if you want, but that means that for sure those 9 other people in your suite are gonna have access to it. Also, people tend to not lock the living room area... so that means other people can get in there.</p>

<p>Depends on what you mean by using it. I would say no. For guys, it's just space for them to trash. For girls, nicely decorated (or at least clean and untouched) for no real purpose. I mean, it's just poorly designed. Dingy, claustophobic, and too much traffic (it's more of a hallway than anything). It's probably slightly smaller than the rooms.</p>

<p>It's gonna be quiet unless your suitemates are rowdy.</p>

<p>You're probably not gonna be able to switch. There's only one good room (the one at the end not next to the bathroom) and I'm sure that person won't switch out since they specifically chose that one. And I'm pretty sure any switches would have to be done officially on paper otherwise responsibilities are gonna be a problem.</p>

<p>As mentioned above, 4 other "bathroommates."</p>

<p>Not very big, i.e. don't think about bringing any additional furniture or large items except for maybe like one item around 2'x2' unless you don't mind taking up walkspace. Room is like 8'x10'.</p>

<p>You can...it'll just take careful planning and a sacrifice of space. (Although, that's true for all dorm rooms.)</p>

<p>move in week seems like it would be awful. on that narrow little street, trying to go up the elevators haha. How do most people even get that moving, it seems like it would be incredibly crowded</p>

<p>I don't know who told you this, but obviously you can. Mini fridges are not against the university standards, and with a single, you have even more possibilities to find a suitable arrangement for it.</p>

<p>Move in week is definitely before the first day of instruction. Think about it, why would it be on the same day as classes? 0 week is full of activities to get new students comfortable with the campus and ooze in a bit of fun before the school year starts. This means free food, free stuff, last minute hangouts, get to know people, etc. Concurrently occuring is setting up the dorm room (first priority) and buying books.</p>

The modern human brain is quite advanced to design different move in dates and hours. There are move in assistants that will provide assistance in the move-in process, though I think there are more than enough of those. Going up the elevators may be a slight annoyance for residential hall residents, but usually it's a 1-2 trip thing.</p>

<p>No, most people move in more or less the same weekend at or around their assigned times. I'm sure you can get everything you need in a weeks time before school really starts to get going.</p>
