<p>It is unrealistic to think that any group of peoplea family, a committee, a company, a citycan function peacefully and productively without some kind of authority. The needs and interests of the individuals who make up any group are too varied for its members to operate as a unit without having someone to make the final decisions. Somebody has to be in charge; somebody has to be ultimately responsible.</p>

<p>Hmm... Lord of the Flies and the French Revolutionary Wars comes into mind. </p>
<p>Lord of the Flies- You need to explain this well. Because the meaning of the book can be construed as anti-authoritarianism. However, you can posit the failure of democracy when everyone had an equal say, and how order/everyday tasks were only able to be carried out when there was a central, authoritarian leader managing the kids. </p>
<p>French Revolutionary Wars- The early stages of the French Revolutionary Wars were a hectic time for France, besieged by enemies on all sides, rampant rioting, and internal strife. However, the rise of authoritarian leaders such as Robespierre, and eventually Napoleon I gave the ability to unify France into the greatest power in Europe.</p>
