What GPA do you think I'll need to get in to these schools?

Here are three schools that I have strong interest to transfer to.

Marquette University
University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign
University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I am a freshman at a community college so my gpa is pretty much a 0.0, what GPA do you guys think I will need to be admitted into those schools? FYI, My major is sociology.

Well, according naviance, which is my school’s site for looking at admitance rates, and the such, the average HS GPA accepted to UofI is 4.1, 4.05 for UofW, and 3.8 for Marquette. I dont know how this would translate to college gpa. I hope this helps!

I would say to keep to your GPA as high and as close to a 4.0 as possible. If you want to be competitive, at least a 3.0.

That sounds high for Marquette, even for a high school GPA. No one here will be able to give you a real answer; admissions committees probably won’t even know until they see the pool of applicants. However, I think the general rule of building a competitive college transcript is to work really really really hard and get really really really good grades–and then do better.

For the publics, it likely depends on whether you’re IS or OOS.

I am from illinois. So I am in-state for Champaign but out of state for Wisconsin-Madison. I don’t think Marquette matters since it is Private.

I’ll say AT LEAST 3.25.

Yes, you’ll want your GPA as high as possible to be competitive and get some financial aid. But there are other things you can do to increase your chances as well. Get involved in extracurriculars, get to know your profs so you get some stellar recommendations, and write one heck of a personal statement. A high GPA is great, but having a high GPA plus all of those other things will make you even more competitive. Take a look at the big picture and what you bring to the table.

Yes I want to join an honor society in my CC and I feel like my chances will increase by doing so, wouldn’t you say?
