Title pretty much says it all-what GPA (roughly) do I need to get a job at a major investment bank when coming from Dartmouth? 3.5? 3.8?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

yeah im actually really curious too. I’m thinking 3.7?

thegeezer44, are you going to Dartmouth in the fall? If so, what are you thinking of majoring in?

No idea what GPA you need to get into i-banking, but if you work your hardest and get the highest GPA you can, there’s nothing wrong with that.

Many IB internships will be available through the resume drop for on campus recruiting. The job postings will indicate the minimum gpa required to apply for a job. Do your best work, and get the best grades that you can and everything will fall into place.

Where/when will these potential jobs be posted?

This sounds like B@B

what? (10 char)

in IBanking…gpa is not everything. It depends on your interview, your skills and your commitment. My mom hires for an Ibank and she says she rarely cares about gpa…she’s mostly concerned with their knowledge of the financial world/skills

I realize that GPA is not everything. I’m just looking for a rough estimate from anyone with experience (from Dartmouth).

Here’s what my friend who graduated from Dartmouth and now works at Goldman Sachs said:

Thanks for your response DmouthGrad2014!

My dad also hires for a prominent I-banking firm and he told me GPA is no where near as important as the interview and the experience/coursework you’ve taken in college. He said they take alot of kids from Wharton, Harvard, Yale and Ross/Haas, but aside from that, you either have to have a stellar interview or have an intuitive understanding of market flows, how the economy works, etc. in order to get hired.

I got a 3.96 gpa at dartmouth am i hard guyzzzz?!?!

The problem is that Dartmouth career services does pre-screening for on-campus interviews for many companies, so it’s not only about what company hiring managers like Wneckid99’s mom might care about or not.

My Dartmouth senior just went through the i-banking interview process. For some upper tier banks, to land an interview you’ll need a 3.8 or above, but for most 3.7 and up is fine. If you’re an athlete, you can get by with 3.5 or so. This may loosen up as the economy improves.
