I know it's kind of a silly question but...

I was a sophomore this year but since today was my last day of school, am I a junior now? Or am I officially a junior my first day of junior year? Also, when would I use the term "rising junior" then?

At my school, you move up a grade once the seniors leave.

Nooo you become a junior when the seniors are taken out the system.

I think it’s easiest to say “rising junior” until school starts in the fall to avoid confusion. Seeing as how i’m still in school while most people in my grade (across the nation) are already technically seniors while i’m still technically a junior, can be confusing.

Like elleya is saying, I’m a rising senior.

“I’m gonna be a junior.”

^ That’s all ya gotta say.

oh ok because i’m applying to this program and it’s asking me what grade i’m in and by the time they’ll get it, it’ll be mid-summer. i think i’ll just check junior off.

If that program is asking what grade you are “in” and currently you are a sophomore then I’m pretty sure you’re a sophomore. But hey, do what you do. They’ll know what year you’re graduating do it doesn’t matter the label.

Apparently you move up a grade when the graduating class moves their tassels on their cap?

HappyNerd, check the “Junior” box on your application because, as of this afternoon, you are no longer a Sophomore. And if people ask what you are, you can always tell them that you’re a rising Junior or that you’ll be starting your Junior year in the fall.

I’m just speaking from a technical stand point. I know I’m a junior (rising senior) at my school. We haven’t gotten our report cards yet even though we’ve been out of school for a couple of weeks. If you check the computer saying you’re a senior you won’t how up there, you’d be a junior.
