Well, the one in L.A. is next Sunday, so I know you're not asking us! Was there one up north last weekend? I'd like to know how it went as well.

...............

Anyone going to the one in L.A. this Sunday?

...............

And why didn't I get invited to one?

To: The Critic -- some got it and some didn't. It seemed pretty random, although from my friends who got one (so did I) and my friends that didn't, I'm guessing that the people UCSC were definitely going to admit all got it and those who might have been borderline didn't. My one friend who didn't get one heard about it from me and another friend, so when he got admitted, he signed up for it, and we all went together (the one in L.A.).

It was good fun, and I liked the people who were accepted. They were people I can see myself being friends with.

I loved the Chancellor -- he seemed really cool in that academic astronomy professor kind of way. A little timid, but really into UCSC, as were all the people speaking. The Vice Chancellor for undergrads (I can't remember her title) was really down to earth and was very warm and welcoming. The head of the linguistics department at first came across as a little lukewarm, but when he launched into a passionate argument over one of the questions (about prestige/flakiness of UCSC), the audience really lit up and gave him a big round of applause. His speech was GREAT! The students, past and present, I thought did a good job selling SC. They talked about things we could all relate to -- like screwing up the first quarter and getting back on track. Things that I worry about, so it's great to know that there's other people who have been through it and are still there and doing great now.
