What happens if I dont put the college down for SAT test?

I am taking my first SAT subject tests this Saturday. I am not sure how well they are going to go.

If they don’t go well I am trying to evaluate if I should do a late signup for the December SAT subject tests, or drop my dreams for reach schools that require them.

They say results for the December SAT tests results will get to schools Dec 29th, however I would prefer to not choose to send them to schools until I know if they were an improvement (December 22nd). If I choose to send them to schools on December 22nd then will they get there in time for January 1st deadlines?

Lets say I send them a 700+ score in November and then a significantly lower one in December what will they think? Also if I fail the subject tests but have 5’s in corresponding AP tests (AP Bio, AP Calc AB) will they consider that)?

Schools that this is relevant to:
CMU SCS
Cornell
Rensalear
UC Berkley

If you get a 700+ in November, do not retake in December. You can change your mind about which specific subject tests to take as late as the test day.

Sorry that was a typo, I’m an ACT guy so I briefly forgot that 700 is a great score. My more pressing question is can I get the tests to January 1st colleges in time and still have a chance to choose whether or not to send my December test.

I think you have to check with the colleges

For Cornell, you can wait until Dec scores are relased to send since it accepts through the Jan SAT for regular admission. However, be aware that Cornell requires you to provide all SAT subject test scores so you cannot choose which to send. It claims to consider for admission the highest two subject test scores in different subjects.

Berkeley has advised (not required) in the past that you should identify it as a college to receive scores in your test registration if you want to assure Dec scores arrive in time to be considered. However, that is minimized by the fact that it does accept the Dec ACT scores and those are often not even sent until after Jan 1 because if you take the writing section it may not be scored until after Jan 1, and ACT will not send section scores before it has your writing scores.

CMU requires any scores to be “sent” by Jan 1. Likely you can wait until Dec scores are released before sending. However, like Cornell, you are required to send all subject test scores. It also claims to use the highest two to determine admission.

Rensalear’s application deadline is Jan 15, so you can wait for Dec scores to be released before sending.

@drusba Great info thanks!
