On the applicant status page it indicates that all required documents have been received. Some applicants might perhaps think that means there's no need to send the midyear report. What happens if its not sent?
Can I fax it instead, by the way?

Also - There was a sentence in my counselor's recommendation that I didn't really like and he recently agreed to remove it if I were to resend the application (which Harvard asked me to do, but then somehow they indicated that everything was received). Do you think there's a chance I can resend the modified rec. and replace it with the one they have now? Or should I just attach a supplementary form with the midyear report? (Can I do that?)

^Hmm good question. I have this problem too. I’m an international student and they don’t actually reveal our first semester grades at our school.

Don’t fax it. It’s OK if you don’t send a midyear if your school has annualized courses, or doesn’t make mid-years or w/e. Different schools have different policies.

No, they won’t replace the rec. In fact, they’ll keep both copies and note the difference, wonder why something negative was mysteriously deleted, and call unwarranted attention to that sentence. Relax. One sentence does not make or break.

Nah, the sentence was positive, if anything (talked about my being into technology), but I just didn’t think it fit into the Harvard context. Anyway I requested my counselor send in a small supplementary paragraph along with the midyear report (this has nothing to do with that sentence.)

Mentos: Shouldn’t I notify the admissions office that midyear grades are not reported at my school? Again, I think it would be more appropriate for my counselor to report that directly to Harvard. The problem is though, that my counselor (who is actually the principal of our school) refuses to do anything online and it would take ages for the midyear report (where he could mention that our midyear grades aren’t reported) to arrive to Harvard, if I get him to mail it * now. *

Don’t fax until they ask. Trust me, faxes are just thrown out or buried in the annex unless they’re asked for, and their authenticity can be questionable. Get something in the mail. If Harvard is missing something, it will notify you.

If anyone has applied from your school in the past, or you sent a school profile along with your transcript/ssr, or your school is fairly prominent, or it’s part of a system that shares administrative procedures, Harvard already keeps the information in a database and will know you don’t need a mid-year.

Have you been emailed about missing teacher recs? If they’re just not showing up on the site, that’s fine. We’re sorting stuff through February. We probably haven’t gotten to your letter yet.

Yes I have been emailed. I’ll wait till Tuesday. If my application packet doesn’t reach them by then, I’ll have to get its content faxed. I really don’t * want to, * because faxed documents just don’t appear as authentic.

No I’m the first applicant from my school to apply to Harvard, so I don’t think that the Admissions Office would know about this, although, many schools around here have similar policies.

Harvard e-mailed me to re-mail my stuff. Then, like two-three days later, everything appeared as received on the applicant status page. They really shouldn’t send an e-mail to anyone until they’re done with all the files they currently have.
