What happens to someone who forgets to update their Fall grades in January?

I was talking to someone in my class and he mentioned he would be fine for decisions from UCLA and UCSD because his cumulative gpa was 3.6. Normally id agree with him, but i knew his GPA was .3 lower this semester due to his fall 08 grades. So i told him that fall 08 grades are included in the admission decision procedure and that he had to update his grades on the UC website sometime in January.
He failed to do so, can he still get into those aforementioned college? He did get into UCR though.

if you read the terms and conditions for updating your grades for fall 2008 and courses planned for winter 09/spring 09 it says that if you fail to do so it could “affect” there decision in allowing that student to be accepted or not. Most likely for UCLA he’ll get an email telling him to update his grades and if he doesn’t they’d postpone there review on his application or automatically reject him. Don’t know how it is with SD, but even when you log into your portal at san diego it tells you how important it is to send in your fall grades.

When he says he’s fine for UCLA and UCSD, what major are we talking about?

To tell you the truth I did not update my grades. But I got an email from ucla asking me for my course updates and I happen to think that I will be alright, maybe he’ll be okay too?

how did you just ignore that part of the process?

you’re talking about your fall update, right?

crazy…

yeah i know i messed up, but i seriously i think ucla admissions saved me. THANK GOD.

pootie562, did your GPA go up after the Fall grades were factored in?

If they asked for your grades, it’s because they haven’t rejected you yet (if they would anyway) for a reason, and if your GPA after the Fall grades factored in is higher, then I’d say that’s a very good thing.

Getting into UCR isn’t really much of a sign of anything. I would say he probably dramatically reduced his chances at UCLA, and he might even get rejected at UCSD now. Hard to say what is going to happen to him. I’d bet on him not making it in to UCLA without an update. I’d say he still might have a decent shot at UCSD. He’ll know in about a week after UCSD puts out their final batch.

ouchhhh i would be freaking out. hes at a great disadvantage because think of all the transfers who DID update their applications. doesnt look like he is a very responsible guy, and the schools are definitely going to think that…he should contact those schools IMMEDIATELY.

“When he says he’s fine for UCLA and UCSD, what major are we talking about?”

its a life science other than Biological Sciences, something along the lines of microbiology or neuroscience. As long as it isnt biological sciences ive seen everyone get in with a 3.2+ in my classes, the Biological Sciences majors were a different story though.

I received an email from UCSB asking for my fall grades but I did the update…anyone knows what that means?

hey tiberius, I don’t want to get ahead of myself. But I think UCLA is going to accept me =) They could have just rejected me from the start, but since they are going out of their way to get my course updates I am getting a little bit excited. Anyways I have a quick question does anyone know if UCLA has a separate admissions committee for impacted majors like Bizecon, econ and comm??

“since they are going out of their way to get my course updates I am getting a little bit excited.”

doesn’t exactly sound like solid logic to me…

pootie if you sent your course update to begin with you woulnt of got that email. like floyd said think logically. If i didnt send in my course update i would of got an email too. It just means there reviewings yours now and ur missing something. Just relax but goodluck

^ not true.

it seems they send emails out for various reasons.
i got one asking for my final grade in a stats class that began over winter break and ended 3/24. i’m of the belief that any contact that isn’t a rejection is a good sign, but let’s not blow that out of proportion.

I dont know if logic has to do with anything, its more like common sense. Since I did not update, it should have affected my admission decision. No offense and all if I were on the ucla admission committee I would have rejected me for my mistake;the fact that they emailed me for my courses just made it seem like they cared enough not to reject me.

they emailed me also…however, i DID update my application back in January. but I’ll agree with Pootie, I think that means we have a good chance… they wouldnt email us if they were going to reject us anyway righhttt??

Can you see the fall updates on your application?

I don’t understand how someone, who is trying to transfer to UCLA, will forget to update his application. I would simply say that he does not deserve UCLA. Stay in your community college one more year.

seriously don’t be so ignorant, it is so easy to say that they do not deserve it. You really do not know why they forgot to update, seriously there is more to life than updates.
