Winter grades

Is it worth waiting last minute to update our apps so we can squeeze in our winter grades?

haha depend bro, if you have a good grade then YES, if not NO. ^^ simple logic.

Lol. I just don’t want UCs to think I’m pulling a fast one. Plus I don’t get grades officially til first week of feb. but I already know I’m going to Ace both classes. I’m still on the fence about it I guess

haha i’m on the same boat with ya.

With winter grades I’ll have ~3.74 and right now my gpa is a 3.7 without winter. Significant difference. Especially for psychology. I really want to go to CAL. It’s been my dream school for a while

An admissions officer at UCLA told me that they do not consider winter grades, regardless of whether or not they are entered before the priority deadline. This was news to me, and I don’t know if this applies to all of the UCs, but he said that if it’s past Fall, they’re not allowed to use it in GPA calculations.

^^^^ yeah I know that but technically we can still enter them.Cal’s supplemental forms say enter all grades received which could be winter classes as well.

Oh, yeah - then enter them for sure! Why not? If it raises your GPA, then what’s the harm?

Yeah screw it. It’s not like I’m doing anything wrong lol. I think I will include winter grades.

Go for it .

Winter grades? Which semester is that? Fall 2011 semester’s?

It’s winter semester. Some CCs get winter grades before fall update so we can squeeze them in to boost our gpa depending what grades we earn in winter semester

There’s some risk to it, OP. If you get, say, a B+ in one of the classes, or if you have to drop one of them, for whatever unforeseeable reason . . . then you will have “lied” by listing an incorrect grade.

Could I ask a silly question, when is the priority deadline which you guys referring to?
My winter ends at 2/16… do I still have time to submit my grade? I want to submit it because it is a major class, I really want to show Cal that what I am capable of, although my GPA would not raise up a lot.

@LfcErnesTT

The deadline that is being referred to is the Transfer Academic Update which is due on the 31st of January. It’s supposed to update the Fall 2011 grades.

You will not make the deadline if you want to submit your winter grades.

Thanks Karma. So you are saying that UCs will not look for winter grades even if it is a major class? It kinda contradicts what my friends have told me…

I don’t know if you’ve taken a look at the TAU online, but it’s just like the applications you sent in last November except that it focuses on the Fall 2011 section. Anything beyond that is open for change but they expect you to put “In Progress” for Winter 2012 and “Planned” for Spring 2012 because that’s the position most people are going to be in.

Regardless of whether you are taking a major class, the deadline for the TAU is on the 31st of this month. If your grades for winter, which they won’t expect you to have, is going to be posted next month, then how will you be able to even send in your grades? You’ll jeopardize your whole application if you decide to wait. Your Fall 2012 grades are the last grades that are going to be put into consideration. Anything beyond that isn’t unless you fail them. Then your application is going to be rescinded.

But when I checked on the above UC Transfer FAQ thread, it said

3.Up to when do the UC’s look at your grades?
The fall semester before you transfer. After you apply, they will send you another application during january to fill out your fall grades. The deadline for the application is usually around the end of feburary. So for those who have winter intersession the application will usually be due before the winter grades are out. That’s why I don’t think they really look at your winter grades unless it’s really important, such as a major prereq class.

Is the policy changed or what?

Yes there is some risk involved.you have to make sure the info on the app stays accurate. If you receive an unexpected grade or drop then you are screwed.
