What has happened to Wesleyan?

All you ever do is write paragraphs defending Wesleyan…

^^Wesleyan is accustomed to answering difficult questions about itself; it’s been doing so for nearly half a century. Witness how Team Williams treats the uninitiated, in this case a 16 y/o URM:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/williams-college/1353061-how-williams-college.html</a></p>

^ that just shows that in addition to praising Wesleyan by day, you like to disparage other institutions by night -.-

^^Team Williams dug that hole themselves; I just happened by with a flashlight. ;)

^^Don’t you have anything better to do than promote your “everything but Wesleyan sucks” propaganda with its respective illogical conclusions?

You have nothing nice to say about other LACs, and put a spin on everything Wesleyan as inherently superior, even purporting that admissions becoming need-aware is a good policy. You even have the audacity to assert that Wesleyan’s dearth of resources allocated to infrastructure improvement makes it superior, claiming that other LACs with construction projects are the embodiment of spendthrift.

If some pipes burst in a Wesleyan dormitory, flooding an entire floor, you would spin it as Wesleyan installing a new indoor pool…

^^Who needs me when you can do it so much better! :D

johnwesley, if someone like dcmiss, who has no stake either way, is so turned off by your approach on these boards (which = thousands of posts consisting of non-stop bashing of any Wesleyan competitor combined with defensively freaking out over even the mildest criticism of Wesleyan by anyone), you might want to rethink that approach. The fact that you can’t even substantively engage on the rebuttals to your, frankly, silly defense of Wesleyan’s new financial policy, and instead your only response is to bash … not even other schools at this point, but posts by random posters on an entirely different discussions, is indicative of just how off the deep end you’ve gone. I was obviously wasting my time by trying to engage in the first place, since you obviously have no interest in an honest discussion of any policy that could ever be considered problematic by anyone so long as it is adopted by Wesleyan, and I won’t make that mistake again. Lesson learned …

Ephman, when you show me a rebuttal, I’ll engage it. You know I’m capable of doing it. But, as I indicated on this Williams thread (um, you know, the one where one Williams student or parent after another attacks an African-American h/s student for being “lazy”) I only pick on people my own size:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/williams-college/1353061-how-williams-college-2.html</a></p>

The rebuttal = the two posts I made on this thread, which completely and totally eviscerated the nonsensical “argument” you’ve made repeatedly on various boards trying to twist Wesleyan’s financial aid retreat, necessitated by financial problems, into a commitment to being some sort of leader in terms of recruiting and matriculating economically disadvantaged students. But keep posting to your (equally foolish and equally discredited, by others) and totally irrelevant posts on an entirely different topic, about an entirely different school. That only goes to prove my point, as well as the point of the others who have and will continue to dismiss your overheated and under-thought rhetoric about Wesleyan and its peers. I truly am done trying to engage with you, and I’ll waste my time elsewhere.

Oh, do you mean, the one where one Williams student and/or parent after another call an African-American h/s student “lazy”? Okay:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/williams-college/1353061-how-williams-college.html</a></p>

I guess this thread is now the one where a Wesleyan alum, who, despite attending one of the best schools in the country, has such a massive inferiority complex, and such an inability to defend his own ridiculous claims, that he changes the topic by unashamedly and untruthfully asserting that Williams posters are racists (and the despicable and hateful nature of that claim, for those who haven’t read it, is belied by that wholly innocuous threat, so don’t trust johnwesley’s lies, and that is the only reason I choose to post one final time in response to him). Were I as intellectually shallow as you appear to be, I would “use” you as evidence that all those affiliated with Wesleyan are bratty, not terribly intelligent, belligerent jerks, but unlike you, I recognize that Wesleyan is comprised primarily of alums who can be proud of their schools without being so insanely defensive that they have to attack anyone from a rival school as racist. Pathetic.

I wholeheartedly agree; people should be their own judges and read that thread (the one where one Williams student and/or parent after another accuse an African-American h/s student of being “lazy”) for themselves:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/williams-college/1353061-how-williams-college.html</a></p>

^
If you wanted people to judge the thread for themselves, (the one where you, unsolicited, show up to bash every other school in the country) you would not have labeled the link as Williams College people are racist…

I understand that you are defensive, considering that no one agrees with you. But I implore you to take a step back and think to yourself. Prospective college students come to this forum to learn about potential colleges, and you are doing everyone (including Wesleyan) a disservice with your shameful behavior. The values imparted by Wesleyan University are far removed from your reality.

The decision regarding which college to attend should not be considered a zero sum game in which one derides every other institution in hopes of increasing their institution’s selectivity. CC is here as a service to provide information to the curious who are about to embark on a fantastic adventure.

On the internet, people have an easier time making ridiculous claims as they do not see their peers face to face. Perhaps it would be prudent to think about your remarks before you post, and consider whether they are based in reality, and if you would say them to the person face to face.

Are we talking about the same thread? The one where one Williams student and/or parent after another accuse an African-American h/s student of being “lazy”? How could that possibly be called racist behavior? Then again, maybe I’m missing something:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/williams-college/1353061-how-williams-college.html</a></p>

^^The whole point being made by virtually all of Team Williams was that the OP had not done his “due dilligence” in researching past threads pertaining to their school before daring to ask the same set of open-ended questions on five different LAC fora. Leaving aside for a moment the whole issue of who gets to create the rules for posting to a public discussion group, let’s just focus on the irony (which none of them were able to grasp) that each one of them was guilty of the same thing they were accusing the OP of – laziness.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/williams-college/1353061-how-williams-college.html</a>

[NOTE : It takes all of two seconds to click on a poster’s screenname for complete access to their posting history.]

^ [Note : Already in your very first posts, you start dissing other NESCAC schools, you need therapy.]

^^Hey guys, there’s orange juice in the fridge; I’ve left instructions for the coffeemaker; stay as long as you like. Please don’t leave your solo cups on the lawn.

Wow! Just checking back in on this tread after over a year and see that it has 117 postings and nearly 26,000 views. I guess the issue of Wesleyan’s relative quaity is quite topical.

Also, am I the only one amused to see johnwesley drawn and quartered?

Don’t touch the tofu. It’s in been in there for a while. Oh wait. Help yourself to the tofu.

Seriously, where did you wind up enrolling?

I know these “Chance me!” questions get agitating, but I honestly have no idea how selective Wesleyan University truly is, so if someone is willing to enlighten me, please do.

My essay emphasizes my military upbringing and the trials and tribulations of perpetual displacement; I discuss my desire to participate in humanitarian efforts and elaborate on my spearheading of a fundraiser that raised $4,000 for the African Well Fund as a youth (continued through latter days in high school career). Rather juvenile compared to other works, but this is my life.

Please give honest feedback. I know Wesleyan is competitive.

Thanks, guys!
