How's the school? How's their business program?

Lot’s of HPU threads on CC - do a search for them. HPU is quite controversial, because its customer service-guru president remade it as a country club destination in order to attract students. Opinions are either very enthusiastic or highly critical.

Good friend of mine goes there and likes it. The one thing that bothers her is that she doesn’t find it very diverse - and she’s white and highly conservative. She really likes that Greek Life is very important, but that could also be different for every student.

The business program at HPU is really good. While it’s already accredited, the school is undergoing the AACSB accreditation process, earning the Cadillac standard so to say. Professors and courses already meet up to the criteria and a team from AACSB will be visiting this month to move the accreditation process one more step along. It’s a long process from what I’ve heard and it takes into consideration where graduates are going and how successful they become, so High Point’s business program is already under intense scrutiny and thriving. The program is very hands-on. There’s even a board room for student presentations and a ticker-tape stock trading room. Students have taken a lot of trips to NY to visit with an HPU graduate that works at Bloomberg and experience NYSE and NASDAQ.

I am a business student at HPU and I am thrilled with my choice after 2 years.

I chose HPU because after talking to professors at schools like UNCG, Elon, NC State; I felt a completely different vibe at HPU when its comes to business. The professors at HPU are huge on real world connections and preparations. In business, busy work and hours of reading will get you nowhere and its the worst thing you could do to prepare yourself for the dog eat dog world that we call business. At HPU the professors are dedicated to real world studies and I can’t imagine another style of learning. Yes, you’ll have homework, and sometimes you’ll have a lot. But I’ve never felt the work I was doing was a waste of time. Personally, when I can relate my schoolwork to my future, I work much harder, and at HPU I’ve found myself pushing harder to do well because of the type of work I’m being given.

HPU was one of the only schools I visited that truly emphasized internships and business experience outside of the classrooms. Sure, you’re classes are important… but can you apply your skills from the classroom in the field? HPU’s career and internship program is absolutely top notch. They helped my find an amazing internship this summer that actually allows me to run my own business at the age of 20! I’m so thankful for their help and one month into this internship, I’ve already picked up some valuable tools in sales, marketing, and employee relations.

As HPUstudent said, we’re currently going through AACSB accreditation which will make our program even better. On top of that we have amazing technology that will provide you with the skills you need to do well in today’s technological society. We may be small, but we have big school resources.

Honestly, I could go on and on because I am seriously passionate about our program here. If you want more info, let me know or just PM me. I would love to add more, but I dont want to bore you! haha

My son is aninternational business major and loves it at HPU, keeps telling us that he is getting a great education, has made a ton of great friends, and is really happy.

Thank you all! I’m just not sure that I like the fact that it seems more like a resort than a college campus. I still want that college feel and I feel like HPU lacks that, from what I’ve seen at least. And how is the surrounding area? Is it more suburban or what?

Dont even click that link (no offense MidwestMom) there is a TON of wrong information in that thread on one page alone. There is some correct info, but its overshadowed by people pretending they know about HPU, when in fact they dont.

TaylorBaton, just because we have a nice campus doesn’t mean we lack the college feel. Our nice facilities just make the college experience better.
