What high school classes do colleges actually care about in admissions?

Okay, so I have a few questions. During college admissions, do colleges consider grades in electives? By electives, I mean things like health, gym, study hall, economics, tech classes, etc. Or, do they recalculate your GPA without them and only include core classes (I would truly hope so). I would imagine it varies with different colleges, so what are some colleges that don’t care about elective grades? I know that almost failing would probably be a dealbreaker but how about a B? And what if the elective is pertinent to your intended major?

Depends on the college. Also, colleges that recalculate only on academic courses may have different ideas of what is an academic course.

i would imagine most schools would not lump economics and tech classes with study hall and gym even if your school considers all of them to be “electives”

Ok, thanks. Any idea where I could find these policies for a particular college on their website? I haven’t had much luck.

They don’t publicize them

Lots of colleges have lists of the classes they require or recommend that you take, and I would assume those are included in your recalculated GPA. Beyond that, it’s hard to know.

Health, gym, and study hall aren’t likely to be included.
Tech and Economics, yes.
