Slides were from a running store. Then I got clogs for work from the Oofos website. Then I got slip ons - needed in a hurry for a trip so I used Amazon. Normally I avoid buying name brands on Amazon for fear of fakes but I took the risk. They must be real - have held up through multiple washes, and foam is performing the same as the others. Oofos website has sales on certain colors and prints. Highly recommend!
I think this year it’ll be a big gift each (ski boots for one and a season pass for the other). We are going skiing for a long weekend over NYE, which is part of their gift. Then a couple of small gifts and their stockings.
You should sell them on Ebay! Classics!!! (also an Oofos wearer…)
And to keep this post on-thread…Oofos can be a great gift! If you had kids who loved soccer slides when they are younger or flip flops or whatever…they are so comfortable and great for your feet - especially at the end of the day. If you have feet that ache when you get out of bed in the morning, Oofos are the key to morning walking around the house!
Here’s the women’s sandals - there are men’s too and their sale page is often great!
My favorite presents have been from my DIL, she gives books and they are always very thoughtful. We have similar tastes in novels, so I always enjoy what she picks out. The non-fiction is always interesting though I often don’t actually finish it! My non-fiction tastes tend to be more aspirational.
I’m hoping to get some sort of Fitbit/Health type watch. I want someone else to do the research though. I don’t want to have to spend hours figuring out how it works, but I’d love to track exercise and sleep better.
Well…maybe our DHs can work together on this. My engineer husband researches everything…sometimes at the expense of actually buying anything. When my old fit bit died, he asked me what I wanted, and I said…another fit bit. Well…I ended up with a Withings because that is what he thought was better. Let’s just say, I wasn’t disappointed when the band frayed and couldn’t be fixed.
Just a side note–they did a study once of who had more satisfaction after a period of time from their purchases, the “I just liked it” people or the ones who researched what would be best. The “I liked it” won by a landslide. Sometimes you gotta follow your gut.
Engineers can’t help themselves.
For those of you who have kids who loved Christopher Paolini’s Eragon series, the latest book is being released 11/7. It’s called Murtagh. My son absolutely loved the books when he was little, so even though it’s for 12 and up, I’m gifting it.
Last year my husband, daughter, her friend and I went to the Christmas show from the Philadelphia Orchestra the Friday before Christmas. H and I both had to work on Christmas since we’re healthcare and it was unfortunately both our turn. We all loved the show and surprisingly to us a friend sings in the choir which made it even more special. This year on the Friday is Elf with the Philharmonic performing the score. We’re all going plus the same kid friend. I’d so rather spend my money on great seats for this than buy things but H and D both like opening presents. He’s getting a Phil Eagles blanket and mug, she’s getting some D&D accessories and a new cell phone - which is needed.
To be fair… the landslide might have been because most people are not engineers. The engineers perhaps liked their researched items. But when giving a gift to others, you should get what the recipient wants.
Two gifts to myself are tickets to A Christmas Carol and then in Dec to Cinderella at a regional theater. They do a very good job (went to ‘Beautiful’ recently and it was excellent).
For both I had a coupon code so very reasonable. Also going to Zoo Lights with friends (free).
LOVED “Beautiful” on Broadway. Would see it again if it came to Denver.
My Fitbit is getting old so I have already asked H for an Apple watch for Christmas. He also picked up one of my favorite perfumes when we were at duty free in London on Sunday coming back home so I think he is pretty set with my gifts
Girls will have their lists to me next week and I will get their shopping done before December. D1 will also let me know what to get her fiance. Still trying to figure out what to get H this year.
I asked my kids for lists today. Hanukkah is early, plus I’m hosting thanksgiving and I’ve got knee surgery beginning of December. As I’m getting older I’m finding it harder to put the energy into gift buying.
I’m hoping to get Bruce Springsteen tickets, although I’ll have to deal with the purchase logistics myself when the tickets go on sale next week. I’m a Jersey girl, and he’s playing one night in Marseille next spring. The concert will be two days before my husband’s birthday, so I could pretend the tickets are for that, but I don’t think anyone would believe me.
Found another great present for DH! My daughter’s BFF is quite a talented artist. She just launched a website and there’s a small painting of my daughter that’s really good! So I called her and ordered it.
Have all the advent calendars presents ready to give at Thanksgiving. The 30+/- males got short changed last year so have extra good ones this year for them.
I’m frustrated. Every year, I read on this thread and the stocking stuffer thread about the Bonne Maman advent calendar. They weren’t available in Japan, but now we are in France, the land of Bonne Maman. So I was getting ready to order when I realized my husband and daughter will be in Japan the first two weeks of December - getting an advent calendar halfway through the month wouldn’t really do. I thought about buying one anyway and sending it with my daughter, but then I had visions of her getting nicked in Customs for jam. Maybe next year?
I think advent calendars - unless you’re really into the actual religious “advent” part are fine for anytime - no matter what month if the year who doesn’t love a treat everyday for 24 days?!! Make it a January tradition!
Anyone find any new interesting advent calendars this year? I have only bought the Bonne Maman one
I’ve gifted both the L’Occitan and the William Sonoma baking advent box in the past and they were fabulous. High quality and my D was thrilled. I was inspired by WS’s spice advent box and made my own this year with penzeys spices. (Our WS closed and I didn’t want to pay $18 for shipping, plus it was more fun picking out my own spices).
I ordered the kids the boring but delightful See’s candy advent box and I got myself the Woobles one that is all over Instagram. Crocheting a little doll daily sounds like an adventure!
