Good day, I am a 19 year old entering the Sophomore year and I recently changed my Major from Electrical Engineering to Accounting. The truth is that I am unsure of what I really want to do. I love Math, but I’m terrible at Calculus and unfortunately I need to retake the class. I enjoy organizing information and communicating with people to learn new ideas. This Fall semester I’ll be taking an Accounting class for the first time and I’m very nervous of what the outcome might be, but I plan on trying my very best. Please I need some advice!!! Thank you.
I am currently in STEM(General Studies)
Is it an introductory course?
Accounting is nothing like Calculus. It is very precise, with clear steps to getting to the end results. Beginning accounting courses should seem very basic to you if you love math, at least as far as the math goes. If you pursue it as a major, you will be learning a lot about business in the process. If you wind up as an accountant, there are certainly jobs that involve interacting with people to some extent, but accounting is largely a data-driven profession. I suggest you take some career aptitude and interest tests to see if it is suitable for your talents, personality and interests before you get too far along in pursuing your degree. You might discover that a career dealing more with words than numbers suits you better, or one dealing more with people than information. But you should do fine in the course, and the knowledge you learn in it can help you throughout life even if you decide not to pursue accounting as your degree.
