I went to a community college in northern California and hated it, after enrolling for 2 semesters i withdrew from many classes and had a GPA lower than 2.0, but recently moved to los angeles and am now in honors classes with a 4.0 GPA and over 30 credits (reatking SOME classes but not all). I am on track to apply to UCs and USC this fall. Would I have to submit my transcripts and horrible GPA from my first Community College? Do I benefit more if I do or do not? Does a FAFSA block on my first school transcripts help so I do not have to submit those (and how do i request a block)? Would this affect my amount of credits/GPA at my current LACC?? Need advice & opinions please
retaking*
(and FERPA block not fafase)
What if you lie to a prospective college and certify that what’s in your application is the absolute truth, when it’s not?
You’ll be rejected. The National Student Clearinghouse would reveal your dishonesty. You’d be denied admission, and possibly blacklisted.
Advice: Do not lie.
Opinions: You will be caught one way or another. How long ago did you attend the 1st CC? If you are doing well at your current CC, admissions will take that more into consideration than your previous record.
My first CC was two year before I started attended my new CC! Thank you- I have read a lot of threads on this website about the FERPA lock but did not want to bellieve false informatoin! If two classes that I failed at my first CC are NOT part of my major prep, do I have to retake them BEFORE applying for UCs in the fall or would I be able to retake them and have my higher retake grade apply AFTER applying to UCs?
Thank you! I have read a lot of threads on this website about the FERPA lock but did not want to bellieve false informatoin!Would you happen to know if two classes that I failed at my first CC are NOT part of my major prep, do I have to retake them BEFORE applying for UCs in the fall or would I be able to retake them and have my higher retake grade apply AFTER applying to UCs (considering UC applications are in the fall and I would still have winter and spring to retake classes I did poorly in when attending my previous institution)
Would retaking a class I failed in my first CC at mt new CC and getting an A or a B in that same class replace the previous failed grade ??
UC policy for repeated courses and grades:
** A student is allowed to repeat each course in which a C-, D+, D, F or NP grade was originally earned, as many times as necessary, until the first time he or she earns a letter grade of C or better. The following rules apply:
- The replacement (repeat) course must have curriculum similar to the original course (the same content but not necessarily the same title).
2)The new grade earned will replace the deficient grade in the GPA calculation. UC does not average the grades. - All coursework (original and repeats) must be reported on the admission application.
- Repeat of C (2.0) grades is not allowed.
- Repeat of courses out of sequence is not allowed.
For rule #5, repeat of courses out of sequence is not allowed, does that mean if I failed a class my first semester and retook it/aced it my THIRD semester instead of my SECOND it would not be allowed??
In some situations, you will not receive credit for lower-level coursework if you had previously attempted higher-level coursework unsuccessfully. This comes up most often with math and chemistry.
Example: If you take the second half of Calculus and get a D, you won’t get unit credit if you take the first half of Calculus (but you can get unit credit if you failed the second half of Calculus).
I would check with your CC transfer advisor and any target schools to determine your specific situation.
