what if i don't get the fellowship

i'm an international and just had 2 phone interviews with a school. I think they like me. But at the end of the last interview, the interviewer asked me details of a fellowship that I indicated previously that I was invited for interview. And I'm supposed to receive a decision later this month from the fellowship

I'm worried what if i don't get the fellowship... do you think their decisions is largely hinged on whether i got the fellowship? i think theres no definite answer but any inputs are welcome.

I imagine it’s all up to how much funding they have and the financial situation of your potential advisors. If they’re short on money, your status could entirely depend on your ability to secure outside funding. It could also be they want to know if they can admit a different student, and they want to know if the money set aside for you can instead be redirected towards them.
