What if i fail to meet UC Berkeley conditions of Admission?

So i got accepted. But this is my transfer conditions:
Continued progress in your course work is essential to your academic success at Berkeley. We urge you to earn the highest grades possible as you complete this academic year.
To maintain our offer of admission, you must satisfy the following conditions:

You must notify your Admissions Officer immediately, by email, of any additions, drops or withdrawals from courses you plan to complete this academic year.

You must complete at least 60 UC-transferable semester (90 quarter) units by the end of the spring 2009 term. Immediately contact your Admissions Officer if you will not be able to meet this condition.

You must complete all UC-transferable courses in the Winter and/or Spring 2009 terms with a 3.0 or higher GPA and no grade lower than a C. Immediately contact your Admissions Officer if you will not be able to meet this condition.

You may not attend summer session 2009 for the purposes of completing a minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester units, IGETC, or UC Reciprocity requirements. However, if you choose to attend summer for any other purpose (major requirements, courses of interest, etc) you must notify your UC Berkeley Admissions Officer by email and your final, official transcript must be received in our office by September 4, 2009.

If you are currently enrolled at or previously attended another UC campus, you must be in good academic standing; you must not currently be on academic probation or subject to dismissal.

**In addition, you must:

* Complete the following specific course(s):
CHEM 211BF: Organic Chemistry
PHYS 223 F: General Physics III
MATH 250BF: Linear Algebra and Differential Equation

 • IMPORTANT: PER COLLEGE OF CHEMISTRY, YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL ABOVE COURSES WITH A “B” OR BETTER.**

So it means i have special conditions? I thought i only need to finish my last semester with grade C or better and overall gpa of 3.0. Why do they say i have to get a B or better for those 3 classes at the end ? And the thing is those are the only classes i’m taking this semester. So it kinda means i’m gonna have to get all Bs for this semester right? I’m kinda scared because i feel i might get a C in my Org Chem class. What should i do then if i really get a C? Do they turn me down? Is there anyway to help? I know i have to contact UCB immediately but what are they gonna do then? I think i can get As for the other 2 classes but still…If so, where am i gonna go cause i’m accepted to other UCs as well but i believe all those acceptance stuff have been cancelled cause i submitted my SIR to UCB already? Please HELP

don’t worry, everything on condition of admission just scare people because they want you to do well. If you got lower than B, just explain to them, should be fine

How do you know this, UCLAplease?

Just to scare people into doing well? Um, no.

Conditions of Admission is a CONTRACT. You are not yet a student at the school, you will be offered admission GIVEN THAT YOU COMPLETE THE CONTRACT. This is stated very clearly.

“So it means i have special conditions? I thought i only need to finish my last semester with grade C or better and overall gpa of 3.0. Why do they say i have to get a B or better for those 3 classes at the end ?”

Every person has an individual contract just for them. Of course, most people get the generic “maintain gpa” contract, but many people have specific conditions. For instance my brother: at UCLA he has just the maintain gpa condition, but at UCI he has to get a B in a specific class.

Stop spreading false information UCLAplease. Berkeley is serious when they say that they want a “B” or higher. Why else would that sentence be in all caps, bolded, and have an asterisk next to it.

If you do get a C in O Chem, you might look into the possibility of taking it in the summer, from any CCC you can if need be, and let them know of your plans. I don’t know if they’ll let you in without that, or even if they’ll let you in with it, but it might help.

UCLA and Berkeley don’t really allow you to take pre-req classes in the summer.

UCLA!please,

Stop spreading false info and ■■■■ if you’re going to do so. As everyone here can see, your false statement has the potential to be extremely damaging to the OP.

It is their admissions policy that they don’t consider pre-req classes taken during the summer towards your application. I haven’t heard that if you take a pre-req class during the summer it won’t transfer. Either way, AFAIK there isn’t a consensus that their enforcement of contingent admissions criteria is clear cut, black and white. The safe answer is that he should expect to have his admission rescinded if he gets a C, but if he comes with something in hand then he might have a chance. If he completes the course with a B, AFAIK it will transfer, and it is Cal’s decision whether or not to take that chance on him.

Maybe their enforcement is known to be clear cut now, though, I have been off the boards for a while. (:

Did anybody get into this situation, like fail to meet the conditions? What did you do? I’m really scared now cause it sounds like UCB is really strict about this. I just wanna know more on what’s best to do if i really get into this situation. I don’t wanna get kicked out. Please help me!!!

actually, on the myberkeleyapp before decisions were out it said that summer could be used to fulfill prereqs.

My advice would be to seek advice from a counselor. Just do whatever it takes to make sure that you get a B in the class. I have a similar feeling of anxiety because I’m not doing so well in my math class. Just do whatever you can to get the grade you need. Get tutoring if it is available.

Rather than find loopholes around the condition, why not put your effort into meeting the condition?

Do what Berkeley students do… study like a mother****er. If you’re gonna get a C at cc now, Cal is gonna be a struggle.

I didn’t read anything else above except for the OP’s question. My friend last year got a “C” in O. Chem and he had to appeal. His explanation was very reasonable because he worked as a Math Tutor for about 15hrs plus a week. I forgot how many units he was taking, but it was a tremendous amount.

In short: It’s a contract. Don’t violate the contract.

If you do, you CAN have your admission rescinded.

^ agreed. Try to fulfill the contract to the fullest. If you mess it up, I hope you have a backup school.

My friend last year was accepted to Berk last year but he ended up getting a C in physics II. They threatened to deny his applications and it was “under review”. He missed a lot of class because he had to go through some surgeries. He sent in a letter from his doctor explaining the situation and they let him in.

I always thought maintaining the 3.0 GPA refers to this semester (Spring 09) rather than just maintaining a 3.0 GPA overall after this semester’s classes are over. I could be wrong though.
