If I get in, I know I would be spending so much time just talking to professors and students. I will have four years of intellectual engagement and come up competent, ready to take on the world. But god, I'm not star high school student, I didn't prove myself. I'm feeling my chances are pretty slim

the question is, what will you do if you didn't get accepted? i doubt i will have the same experience at my state university (rutgers).

Wow. From U/Chicago to Rutgers is quite a leap...you have nothing in the middle?
Fwiw, if you haven't already, you might want to explore some LAC's...Chicago strikes me as being very LAC-like in a number of ways and the things you like about Chicago you may find at other places.

My leap (had I not been accepted EA) may well have been from chicago to University of Minnesota(twin cities). I was applying to other schools (like Boston University and George Washington U) but I think that had chicago turned me down, I might have picked the UMN Honors program (that or gone to lawrence).

Many state schools can be pretty damn good if you are able to accept the whole 30,000 student idea and force yourself to take classes (instead of having the core)

I did apply to NYU and Vanderbilt but I'm willing to make a bigger sacrifice to pay for Chicago (eating at a homeless shelter, taking on more work, whatever it takes). unless these universities could give me a handsome aid package, i can't go.

Because my ECs are lacking, I doubt I really have much of a shot at Chicago (junior this year), but since its EA and would definitely be my top choice I'm going to give it a try. Either way, I would be happy at UNC or UW as well.

hmm this is a toughy if I don't get in which I'm nearly positive that I won't I will go to either the University of Washington or Whitman or the university of Portland so yeah I hope I get in to one of my "reaches" namely UCHI!
