What Influenced You To Choose Your Major?

So what influenced you to major in what you did? All replies are welcome. I'd love to hear some interesting stories in hopes to see if I chose the right major myself. I'm kind of at a lost right now so I need some certification to satisfy my soul.

My major is not really important... It's just part of the path to my desired profession, Pharmacy Doctor, which was suggested to me by my parents.... I am a well rounded person but not extremely good at anything in specific, which gets annoying lol. But I kind of went along w/ it b/c there is a shortage of pharmacists and it's a very nice paying job. I am just taking Chem, Bio, Ochem, Physics, and Calc as my primary preqs for pharm school and several majors incorporate them...

Nikkei. Hope to c u tomorrow in geo class. Hopefully the class will not be a major pain in the ass.

The thought that our world is only a tiny bread crumb in a universe of things going on. I like science, math, and probably engineering. I constantly have different experiences which constantly push me towards these subjects heh. I built a telescope and have seen the actual planets of our solar system. I've seen Jupiter and its clouds bands along with a few moons, I've seen Saturn and its rings and moons, I've seen the extremely bright Venus, I've seen the fiery red and extremely small Mercury, I've seen the treacherous planet Mars, and a really obvious galaxy that was huge, and many meteors shooting through our atmosphere. The universe is my playground for inspiration. I was in Downtown Los Angeles these past two days, and I got to ride on the metrorail. That was a hair-raising and very inspirational experience. Threw me into my intersts in engineering. I was totally awed by the experience of being on that metrorail. A sudden worldly appreciation for technology overcame me and it just confirmed what I wanted to do in life. Star Wars has also made many influences on me. I wish to build the things of their universe and have personal spacecraft and stuff.

I think I will major either a few or only two of these: Physics, Astrophysics, Planetary Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Physics.

As for a career, I am completely clueless. There are way too many fields and things that interest me right now, though they all are extremely connected.

I have much more to say, but I won't continue unless I decide to. I'd like to read about other people's experiences as well. =)

i am a prospective biology/chemistry major, i took this meanly b/c i was interested in taking biology, chemistry courses

I woke up one day screaming "I want to be an Electrical Engineer"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

I bet your neighbors screamed, "SO DO WE, NOW SHUT THE %)($*$# UP AND LET US SLEEP" =). No offense meant, just making a light laugh =).

I'm a Social Sciences Secondary Education major (my school just happens to have that as a joint major, rather than a major/minor like most schools), and I think there are a lot of reasons for that. I was really into debate and mock trial in high school, and everyone kind of automatically assumed that I was going to go pre-law (I think my parents are still hoping), but I just can't see myself working with lawyers every day. Anyway, it wasn't the actual debate portion of things that inspired me, it was the coaching.

I helped coach and found this middle school debate team, and I was working with this kid for about 3 years. He started off incredibly timid, and he'd lose all of his rounds. But in his third year, I was at one of his tournaments, and he came in first. And even though I'm sure that can be attributed more to other things in his development more than me, the idea that I could help someone reach their goals was amazing. So I started interning at an elementary school, TA'd four classes, talked to teachers, and decided it was probably, if not the most lucrative career, than the one that would make me happiest.

It was my 10th grade english teacher who made me think about writing as a career. along with a passion for writing comedy that developed more and more over the years, my dream to become a television writer came about, and a film/film studies major was a natural next step for me. film/tv are the most popular and influential mediums of our time, and even now i find that in their busy lives, children as well as adults find great comfort in television programs that they can relate to. when i am satisfied with my writing, i just feel this overwhelming sense of accomplishment, and for others to read my writing and find themselves or a piece of their lives somewhere in the words, that would mean my dream has come true. so there you have it!
