What is a minimum GPA somebody can have, to get it

I know they don't reject anyone based on GPA number, but what would be considered too low? What is average of the people who get in?

This is really an impossible question to answer. Over 95% of Harvard students have graduated in the top 10% of their class. From our large public high school I’ve never seen a student accepted who wasn’t in the top 2%. The lowest weighted GPA accepted in the last six years was a 97.5 and that was one student, all the rest were 99 or better. (Weighted GPA at our high school is typically about 6 points higher than unweighted for top students.)

I don’t think Harvard reports an average GPA, at least they don’t on college board’s matchmaker.

I’ve only seen athletes get in without being in top 10% of class.

how does like a 99 GPA compare on a 4-point GPA scale

^ most likely a 4.0.

Gpa really doesn’t matter. It’s your cumulative grade out if a 100 that matters more because a 3.5 at one school can be different than a 3.5 at another school. A 99 at my school for example is around a 3.89

Can someone explain this 100-point thing to me?

I was told that a 95 at my school equals a 4.0. At least, that’s what I’ve heard. I asked my guidance counselor and she didn’t know.

An 87 at my school is a 3.8.

87 at mine is 3.4. :(

courteau91 @ #7: Some high schools have 3 levels of courses. All A’s in the middle tier of classes = 100 pts. If you get all A’s in the top tier classes, then it may equal, say, 120 points. If you get all A’s in the lowest tier classes, it may equal 80 or 85 points. So, if you take 2 middle classes and 3 highest honor classes, your average for the semester may be something like 114.

If you don’t have a 100 or higher, then I’d say you are wasting your time applying. Look at it this way: There are 350 towns in MASSACHUSETTS alone. If Harvard wanted to admit the valedictorian of every twon (who likely has all-A’s and an equivalent of 100-120 points per above) then they’d have 1/4 of their class filled. Having a near-perfect GPA is a given for Harvard. Then start adding on the extras like ECs and rec’s like that internet company you started in 8th grade, or that time you played at Carnegie Hall, or that novel you wrote and the internship you did for Joe Biden.

Face it, if your marks are bad, you won’t be a keeper. Of course, you can always spend the $75 and hope…

By the way, DMOC @#8: That’s pretty sad about your GC not knowing the asnwer to that question
