What is acceptance and yield rate for Cal Poly SLO

For Slophil3 -
Step 1: Firmly take hold of foot
Step 2: Bend knee towards chest
Step 3: Place foot in mouth
Step 4: Hold for at least a week because you just got owned

LOL!!! slophil3 = owned.

Thanks Cali Trumpet.

hahaha i love you alicia :)

soo funny!

SDSU had an 11.4% acceptance rate for their 2007-2008 admissions. They recieved 61,000 apllicants and accepted only 7,000.

that isn't exactly correct, first of all, the only group that has reported 61,000 applicants is sdsu themselves, every other institution i have found reports that ucla had the record number of applications this year with 55,000, so clearly people are either igoring sdsu's claim to the record number of applicants, or they are merging their transfers, graduate, and undergraduate applications all into one number or something to that nature

if you can find another source other than sdsu that cites that there were 61,000 first time undergraduate applicants, please let me know

second of all, they are anticipating about 7000 to enroll... they didn't accept only 7,000

if you take a look at the student population, there are around 30,000 undergrads, divide that by 4 classes plus any people going into their 5th and 6th years, you will get 7,000 students per class, so they are right on target for this year compared to the size of any other class that sdsu has had

make sure you get your numbers and percentages right...

Edit I clearly jumped straight to the quick reply without reading on to see other people ridiculing this statement. Sorry for being repetitive.

Can the flaming please end here. There is no reason to get this steamed about some misunderstandings with the numbers. This is supposed to be a nice place to discuse colleges, not a place for people to belittle others;
ex: "So thank you for pointing out your ignorance, as it was great fun for me to comment on." and "owned"

archileta's post is actually informative and explains the misunderstanding clearly. Cali Trumpet, your post may give much of the same information but there is no reason for you to call people idiot or ignorant.

Back on topic: I will bet that if SDSU is giving an acurate number count, they will actually have a lower acceptance rate than poly. This of course does not merit the school any higher than poly.

Go ahead and read Slophil's post. He/she stated "Collegemom is an idiot." He started the war, not me. He is a 'new user.' However, I imagine since he never posted again, he probably made a new account or was a CC regular and just wanted to be mean to collegemom, for an unknown reason. Slophil is a new user and clearly uninformed about SDSU, so making numerous strong erroneous statements was a measure of his ignorance.

If the user simply posted, "I don’t understand what everyone means by the acceptance rate being 44%" that would be okay. It would also be okay to mention his many other fallacies, but it is not okay to call another regular user an idiot. And by starting his post that way, he stated very clearly that he did not deserve the respect I give every poster on this forum, whether that person is right or wrong in the statements that were made.

For the record, Archileta's post was days after mine. Archileta even stated in an edit that he/she noticed the confusion was already settled and that his comments were repetitive. Arch answered the specific question of the acceptance rate, as did I, but I posted out of defense for collegemom, not because I really cared about any misconception of the yield rate at SLO. Heck, I did not even apply nor did I want to go to SLO. I am just not a big fan of flamers, or users backing up flamers.

So, thank you Sora for allowing me to defend myself, and further pointing out Slophil's ignorance.

Ah I do stand corrected on the count of slophil calling collegemom and idiot (i have never been partial to reading those title heads =)

Regardless of who started the name calling however, if you are really going to stand on a moral ground and defend collegemoms honor, do it intelligently and without the denegrating words used by those those lesser posters than yourself. I do have respect for your stance Cali Trumpet, but there is no need to perpetuate what slophil began. It makes the us all look bad when these things begin. And I would apprecite the same respect back...

Sora,

I did not mean to 'perpetuate what Slophil began.' When reading my original post, the only thing that stands out is calling Slophil an idiot. This was a pointed remark in response to him calling a poster the same thing. It was not a name calling contest to me as you are implying. It was more of Slophil: Collegemom, your an idiot! Me: No Slophil, you are the one that got it wrong, so that makes you the idiot. I think it is pretty obvious that his remark was out of air and had the intent to defame a poster, whereas my comment had a symbolic reference to the way he addressed a poster and then made many incorrect comments.

All and all, I agree I probably should have not even reponded to the comments this user said. He has not come back so he probably just made a new account and went with that.

Amen ^____^

Assume Cal Poly accepted the same amount of people last year and with 36000 applicants this year (president of Cal Poly said at Open House) the acceptance rate comes out to around 34% this year

Parent needs a little help...my son was accepted into the biology programs at Cal Poly and UCR. Trying to make a decision regarding viability towards a medical school. Any advice?

I suggest you ask this over in the pre-medical forum.

SDSU enrolled 7000 new students and offered admissions to three times that…

bizzymom^ check into the connection between UCR and UCLA medical school. This past summer , we visited UCR and they told us about a program where students attend UCLA med school after UCR.

That might be a good program for your son.

On the other hand, UCR is incredibly hot and truthfully, not a beautiful campus and welcoming environment like CPSLO. I have heard from several people that they don’t like it at UCR. It has never been about the school itself or the programs, but the college life. (environment, dorms, things to do etc…) I have rarely heard a bad comment aout CPSLO.

Of course, I do not know about the Bio program and the link to getting into med school.

Good luck!

I got rejected
