What is appealing about going to Columbia?

I want to go into Engineering, btw. I feel like I don't actually know much about the school. Someone enlighten me. Thank you :) (besides the fact that it's Ivy League lol)

Well for one… Columbia is an ivy league college lol

I think you should start here: http://www.engineering.columbia.edu/</a> and do your own research

One advantage is that you’ll live in New York. You can do internships and network all year long

 1. why would anyone go to Columbia for engineering?

 2. why would u bother w a school for which u can’t articulate a single appealing reason?

-_- ur not helping. obviously, someone w/ experience with the school can answer this question. if I, someone without experience, already knew, why would I be asking?
btw, engineering is one of the most popular majors at Columbia…

@GoldeRetro There is a reason why Columbia’s application has the “Why Columbia” essay… You’re supposed to figure out what is appealing about Columbia for YOU, personally! You need to do your own research first! This is such an open-ended question; no group of alumni or current students could possibly effectively answer this for you.

Sjsprint and other commenters are right, you really need to figure out the answer to that on your own. But for a quick overview, the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science (known colloquially as SEAS) is very well regarded, ranked by USNAWR at 14th and 2nd within the ivy league behind cornell, if ‘ivy prestige’ is important to you. Also just a note, “engineering” isn’t a major, SEAS is a school within Columbia University that offers many majors. You have all the benefits of NYC, a focused version of the core curriculum, a beautiful campus, high diversity in all respects, etc, but in all honesty this is information you could have easily found in a quick google search. Columbia students are highly motivated, high achievers who thrive in a high-speed, high-stakes environment and do their own research. Starting with the website or even googling “columbia university engineering” would give you a plethora of information much more rapidly than asking on CC. Come back with any specific questions you can’t find the answers to online.

Not an engineer at Columbia but friends with many. They all find that the curriculum is difficult but rewarding. What I am most impressed about is how easily they are able to find research work in fields that interest them. I have two friends in BioMedical Engineering who work on researching topics that they have come up with themselves and have access to a wide variety of resources with which to conduct their research. Yes, engineers do have to complete some aspects of the Core as well, but most students seem to have found it totally manageable and can usually complete it within their first two years!

Columbia is one of the most diverse schools in the nation, that basically excels in every field and disciple from art, languages, science, engineering, classics, political science, math, etc, etc, etc. Compare to Harvard, Stanford. Columbia’s difference is it is in Nee York.
